can anyone help me with info about making a storage box for the front of my tt.

i was wanting to mske it from marine ply and bolt it to the tt frame, size would be 1220mm w, x 500mm w,  and about 600mm h,

i just dont know if this would be suitable sizes but would make great space, and not too sure if i use marine ply  this would be too heavy by the time it is full with gas bottle and stuff, and im not sure if coming out 500mm from the trailer towards towbar is too much but it would give me good space for stuff ,

i have to make it 600 h becase of height of gas bottle and i want to have a secure lid on it that can be locked,

any info would be of great help, thanks         HARRY

Hi Harry.
I had a local firm make a "Trailer Tongue Box" out of checker plate aluminium for my trailer, the firm mostly makes ali box's and liners for 4x4's Hilux Animal sort of vehicles.

It's a great box, and has a locking lid, very handy for storing my two gas cylinders along with other kit.

Andy.

Is your Suncamp supposed to have box on the front? If not check your nose weight before putting one on.

You can buy a nose weight gauge, but the cheaper way to do it and just as easy is to cut a piece of wood (such as a broom handle) the right length so that when the trailer is level you can put the top end of it under the hitch and the bottom rests on a pair of bathroom scales. The scales will within a few kilos tell you what the noseweight of the trailer is. Make sure you have the trailer loaded up normally as how you pack the trailer can affect the noseweight (i.e. more weight towards the front of the trailer = higher noseweight). Not a very good explanation but if it's not clear I'm sure someone else can explain it better, or I'll look out something off the web that shows how to do it.

For our front box, we made our own by converting a green garden storage box.  Drilled holes in the bottom for the ubolts and put a sheet of marine ply in the bottom of the box for strength (also secured in place by the ubolts) we've had this for the last 4 years on our tt and stored a lot of light weight stuff in there.  Keeps it nice and dry, and its handy on site to store all the kids toys. We've done alot of towing with this (Scotland - France x3, Scotland Dorset x2)and never had any problems.
