Last time we went camping it rained and water gathered in two puddles on the awning roof. It did not come through and I was able to push it all off. I did have it pegged as tight as I could. Any ideas or remedies? Can you get additional poles to support the puddle areas?
Hi Fred we have had this when not on a completly flat pitch it really puts the awning in a strange position & you just can,t get it sag free, best not let the puddles get too big as the weight of the water could bend a pole or two
------------- If it ain't broke don't try to fix it!
Is an awning stretcher something you put on your poles to move them to a further button? If it is can do this by hand. If it is something else I would like to know about it.
Fred.
I will have a look the next time I put up the awning. Probably a few weeks away. I think I had the poles at full stretch. I was hoping I could buy two poles to clip between the existing ones across the puddle areas, parallel to the camper.
Fred.
For an "on the job" solution, drop the poles at the front of the awning as much as you can, or, leave the centre pole at full height and drop the two end poles.
I know this is a very old post but it might help someone.
I had the same problem water resting on the awning roof and causing it to sag, once it starts sagging the weight of the water causes it to sag further until you have gallons of it that can't run-off!
I tried the awning stretcher tool and it helped a little but solved the problem on my Fiesta by putting an extra pole in on each side. Simply get an adjustable line-prop, cut the hook off one end and remove the rubber stopper from the other end and replace them with Cabanon Apache awning 'C' clips:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pack-of-2-Cabanon-Apache-tent-awning-metal-c-C-clips-tent-spares-/271195260639?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3f247f46df#ht_1110wt_721 They just push in, (I had to file about half a millimetre off mine for the narrow end ) Then just hook them up and tighten the thumb screw. They also make the awning more stable.
Hi Federico
You could have a look at this, it specifically mentions pooling ... I've been thinking about it for a couple of years, but have just replaced all my poles with a carbon fibre set ... so waiting to see if pooling is an issue.
Do a search for awning companion. I've got one and it tightens the poles much more than can be done by hand. also if doing it manually it takes two people, one to stretch the poles apart and the other to tighten the thumb screw that holds them in place with an awning companion you can do it on your own. tighter you can get the canvas the better. allowing it to puddle will eventually stretch the canvas and make it baggy and difficult to erect properly. Ive never regretted buying mine, one of the best gadgets I have bought.
I bought an awning companion stretcher tool from Towsure a few weeks ago, it helped - handy to hold the poles tight while you tighten the thumb screws - cost me £25.00 but it didn't solve the problem. The seams of the awning roof were very tight by the poles but still very saggy in the middle. However the line-props do a fantastic job and make the frame much more stable too, they cost £3.99 for the two 'C' clips and the line-props were £2.50 each. Took me 10 minutes to make each one. Just thought that the idea might help someone with the same problem.
