I have just bought a Conway Classic 2000, it is in excellent condition, it has been in dry storage for the last 10 years. Will it need waterproofing as its been in dry storage for many years or will it be ok?
No need to waterproof. As advise is given on this site people tend to say put the unit up and then wet it with a hosepipe which will make the canvas shrink and then it should be watertight especially so as it has been dry stored.Hope this helps.Cheers.Alex
It should be OK if nobody has had detergent near it, or proofed it in the past.
it needs putting up and wetting out with clean water, That should close up the fibres and ensure it is waterproof again.
Once you start using waterproofing compounds, then you will have to repeat every few years, as the waterproofing liquid overrides the natural canvas / cotton thread closure.
As Dave said no detergent if there are any marks do not try to clean them with detergent as this washes away the waterproofing and would make the unit leak. All you can do for marks is brush them with a soft brush or wipe with a clean damp cloth ( no detergent!!!!) if that doesn`t work then you will just have to live with the mark. You never mentioned any marks so I presume that there are none. I t`s just a bit of advise for future reference,Cheers.Alex
The roof of the awning has a few dust patches on it, will try to bruh them off. Does it need to be pegged out when i water it? as I dont have an area big enough to peg it out.
