Hello chaps

I have a 2003 Conway Crusader with a Country Leisure Caprice gas oven.  It ignites just fine but as soon as I close the door the flame dies out.  Am I doing something wrong or is the oven in need of repair?

When you say the flame dies out, does it go off instantly or gradually?

When you light it I presume you have to keep the control held in to over-ride the thermocoupling until it warms up. Ours used to go out like that when we shut the door. I found if I held the control in then it stayed lit - so it turned out to be the thermocoupling that had failed.

Does it have a cupboard underneath? Our Pathfinder oven goes out it the door to the underneather cupboard is closed, Pennine said it's something to do with the air flow and the vent in the bottom of teh cupboard.

It does have a drawer underneath - will open it to see what happens.  Last year it worked perfectly!  I do keep the control held in - perhaps for not long enough and the flame does die away gradually as soon as the oven door is shut.   Grad Sailor - if the thermocoupling has failed, how do I replace it?

We bought a new one and connected it to the back of the control - not difficult to do. But try cleaning the tip of the thermocoupling with something like carb cleaner. Ours used to pay up regularly and we often got it going again that way.

If it's dying away gradually, it sounds like a lack of air to it, or the oven vent is blocked with something.

Great advice on COC website concerning the Caprice oven. Just looked up an old thread and found:-

According to 'those who know these things', there are two holes on the inside of the oven door, on the stainless steel side pieces, and underneath these are two blanks which have to be drilled out. These then correspond with the partially cut out pieces of the rubber oven door seal, to provide the necessary ventilation. I thought that a previous owner had cut these bits off, but apparently they are supposed to be like that. The oven should then work okay though we haven't had a chance to check it out. It does appear to be a well reported design fault - Pennine certainly know about it - but not everyone's oven plays up like this.

To see the entries/replies from 2003 regarding oven issues, put it into the 'search' box.

You can contact Pennine on 01254 355704. I spoke to Adrian, and he seemed very happy to help, and would give you a better description of the modification required.

This was an old thread, but if you search for "oven" and the author as "Sue House", you will find the above plus loads more info.

We have had the same problem this weekend.  We lit the gas oven and closed the door the flame went out.  Tried it again and the flame slowly faded from the right to the left and then went out again. After that we gave up and just managed with the grill and burners. Does this sound like the same thing experienced by other campers and what should we do.  Rather nervous about the gas anyway so this didnt help matters!

This happened to our camper and the drawer had to be replaced as it blocked the flow of air to the oven, we used to wedge a spoon in the door, not ideal as it used to get really hot.  As had already been said, use the search facility on the Conway Owner's website as it has been covered there.

another vote from us for keeping open the bottom cupboard.  Following the advice on here after problems with our oven going out we now keep the bottom cupboard open and have had no further problems

Had the same problem until I fitted the heater in place of the drop down cover. This allows the air to be "drawn" through the vents on the heater. Suppose it also takes out the trip element of the open flap!!

Only thing is you can't use the oven at the same time as the heater as it goes out as before for obvious reasons
