Due to recent operations I could not drive so we had to revert back to our tent.We stayed on a site that we liked and bye the way still do.The first week we were there we were the only tent a bit like the cowboys being surrounded by the indians.Well I was quite shocked by the looks we got from caravans, motorhomes. even a Pathfinder folding camper as good as to say ah poor tenters. My normal feeling on campsites regardless of what unit you have is friendliness people speak and greet you this was not the case.I am sure that some of these people think that they are better than you are.The annoying part is that some of units can be bought for a couple of hundred pound because they are so old yet they seem to think that they are a cut above you.Well I can only put some of this treatment down to snobbery and personally couldn`t be bothered with people like that.Cheers.Alex
Yes I know what you mean. We love going away in our tent, often just me and the kids as their dad works away alot he joins us at the weekends.. but when he comes to our tent there is not only my car sitting outside the tent but also a 911cabriolett ..you should see the posh caravan folk lol... chins drop and now they choose to talk to us!!! but I dont think so...the game had already finished for us. Take people as you find them.....and leave them with a smile and a new friend.
I have had both a tent and a caravan and have never felt I was being treated or looked upon differently by other campers on site.
Off site however, when talking to locals and they ask where I am staying, I have on occasions felt as if their opinion of me wanes slightly when they realise I am in a tent and not a posh caravan or a local B&B.
Terrible how folks are, we once refussed to stay on a sight in Mablethorpe because the owners though we were in camper and were very rude to us when we turned up with a folding camper. They kept coming over to talk to us and insult us even further by saying that next year they weren`t accepting booking from tents or families. I was so upset and oh had to drive over 100 miles home because everywhere else was fully booked.Again like you we were parked next to old caravans that were worth a lot less than our unit but who cares about money, everyones still have the same holiday.
Snobbery gets everywhere doesn't it. If people want to be funny like that let them get on with it I say. Mind you if they need a hand with an awning......... they wouldn't get one from me !! When are you taking the Countryman out? We had a fantastic few days at Woodland Waters near Grantham with ours last week, so glad we bought it now.
We will be out in the Countryman on Thursday. We really like our Countryman we will use it as much as we can now.Anyway watch out tents, old caravans.old motorhomes.it`s our turn to look down our noses this time Cheers.Alex
were often like that and usually the only tent surrounded by motorhomes as folkestone is swiftly turning that way .makes no odds to me so long as there's grass left to sit on.
some of the vans are pretty big and their owners snobs (strangely not using their own showers or washing up in their shiny sinks in their land gin palaces) our £200 trailer tent against their moving houses no contest mine wins every time
have you noticed the more you have on board a tin tent or motorhome the more you clog up the site facilities [: errr:perhaps the depreciation is vast it cannot get lower than the price of a trailer in ours
So glad its not just me! We struggled to book a site for the esater weekend, when we arrived at the site we finally booked it was all seasonal pitched caravans. They all then proceeded to watch up put up our tardis. I justed wanted to turn and say tada! when it was up but thought better of it!!
I have noticed this myself some people are like that others are more normal. Having looked in caravans I personally don't like them you don't seem to have a lot of space until they put a great big tent on the side lol
It wasn't too many years ago, possibly the 1960's or 70's that campervans or dormobiles as they were often called then, were not very welcome anywhere. I have no idea why not but there weren't too many around at the time. I hired one once and several sites just wouldn't let me on. I think they were caravans only at that time. Since then of course they now cost nearly as much as a house and are considered pretty posh - lol
