Just trying to get more ideas for a tv set up for the camper. We have a built in freeview portable tv which we are planning to take. I am about to buy a caravan tv aerial set with poles, brackets, cables etc. I have read most of the posts about fixing the aerial but reluctant to attach permanent brackets to the trailer. Has any one got any other ideas they have come up with for this problem?
There are two ways to keep the mast upright.
You can buy a mast base that has a corkscrew on the foot and a handle between the corkscrew and the mast tube and you screw this into the ground and then push the mast into the tube. Its base looks like the screw post that you attach a dog lead to.
Alternatively, get a 12" long steel tube that that is big enough to slide over the base of the mast and get a local engineering shop to weld a steel plate to it. The plate would need to be about 18" long by 6" wide and the mast tube be welded at one end of the plate.
On site and as you park the unit, you drive one wheel onto the steel plate leaving you with a securely held base into which you slot the TV Mast.
Personally I prefer the brackets because, being the same colour as the camper, they are not noticeable and being at one end, I can have the aerial lead either coming into the camper where the canvas changes from velcro clipped to bungy cord, or I can feed it under the rear bed and straight through into the awning if we are watching TV there.
