Can't seem to find this anywhere - just wondered if anyone knew the main body length of  the Pathfinder i.e from gas locker to rear.

I know the overall length is 4.78m so guessing around 3.6m or so buit would be useful to know for measuring purposes on drive!

Also assume form reading here that most cars need towing mirrors for these wider 210cm models. My 5 series is 1.85m wide I believe although does have wide convex edge mirrors - presumably I should get some for when I collect it

You will still have the tow hitch attached on your drive though!   It should be about a metre less based on the size of the bed that covers it when out but never actually measured.  The internal dimentions may help but not sure if they cover the bed areas too.

You do need the mirrors.   We have a pathfinder and our previous car was a BMW 5 series and we defo had to have the mirrors.

If you are going to tow with that car on a regualar basis I would suggest that you get some cheap slip mats too.  The car is great on the road but hell on a wet slippy grass pitch.  We changed cars in the end, though mainly due to dogs rather than the slipping.  Tow sure do something cheap that you can place under the wheels but we ended up using the foot mats a couple of times just to get off grass.  The slope was  a little too much to push the pathfinder up to hitch.  Alternatively always book hard standing though that will limit you a little.

I am aware the hitch will still be on but we can overhang it over a very low wall  (10cm high) slightly up to the jockey wheel if that makes sense - not a massive issue as some adjustments may be made

Thanks for the BMW and pathfinder combo info. My immediate concern was how it would cope on wet grass as the huge summer tyres and rear wheel drive combined with massive torque (its a 535D) I am aware will be an issue at some point! An old small roll of carpet used to live in the boot during winter just in case!

If it proves a regular issue I may have to leave my new winter wheel set up on it which has winter M&S tyres which cope fine on snow, ice and mud. Downside is they wear quicker in the warmer weather as the tyre compound is so much softer and it doesn't handle as well for the 99% of the time when I won't be towing. We have joined the CC so I know many of their club sites are hardstanding but would like to use the CL's aswell

I worked out some measurements for taking our pathfinder on the NI Ferry.

Towing Height..1.4m
Towing Length..5m
Towing Width..2.1m.

On the question of Mud Mats. The plastic ones you buy (and we carry) have grips on both sides so that it will not slip from under the wheels when you drive over them.

We also tie a 7 foot length of string between the mud mats and the rear of the trailer so that as we drive off the soft ground and onto solid ground, the mats will come with us.

I see ffrom one of your previous posts you bought your own porch for the Pathfinder and did the zips yourself - do you mind me asking what lightweight awning you bought?

Have contacted Lisa for a price for one of her adapted ones aswell as seems the awning is a bit unwieldy for shorter stays

the awning was a  outdoor revolution -porch teklite (2009 model) which is same awning that many people on here have adapted already by Lisa though I think she has some new ones too.  the colours really match my pathfinder too as it is a 2003 green and cream and awning is also green and cream.  (you can also get blue and burgundy in this model awning)

I got mine second hand so only paid £45 and got the zip done for another £55 including the zip and the sewing. 

I think there is one on this site in the classifieds and ebay is always worth a shot.  You can also buy new (but the older model like mine) if you google it or the latest model would work too though of course costs more.

Wife does have a Singer at home but not sure how confident she would be at this - may have to see but think it looks like a must buy so we can use it for shorter stays

on the awning thing i did mine myself and it was an easy job with the techlite 1 as with this awning you sew the zip to the bag it comes in,so far easier than trying to sew on to the awning itself.
