we have had friends staying,so we wanted to show our new to us pathfinder off.We have to keep it outside in garden. So off came the winter cover, then the waterproof travel cover,or so we thought it was waterproof.the rear bedboard was soaked through, the bed pod was sodden, and the mattress was also sodden. My friend and i decided to take the cover completely off the trailer to look at it.

On first inspection,it looked fine, and we were baffled, then we put it over the washing line and looked at it from inside. The seam that goes right along the centre of the cover had a small hole in it,as if it hadn't been welded properly.

so if you have an unexplained leak, check your cover as you may have a defect in the seam.I'm glad we found it now,in the garden, than if we had got to a camp site.

does anybody know if you can get the seam rewelded?or is it a new cover for us?

Alarm bells!

It is recommended to remove all soft furnishings from your FC for winter storage ... mattresses, inner linings, cushions, curtains etc!

We always create a raised area between the travel cover and winter cover, so that water runs off and doesn't collect anywhere ... actually store the roof box there and it does the trick very well.

That's a great idea Kelper. I have used and upturned bucket in the past but we need somewhere for our roofbox and I never thought of this. Thanks.

AdrianAxle, we found a local place that would make or mend trailer covers by looking under Tarpaulins in the yellow pages. Also, if you happen to know anybody in the trucking business, ask them. My friend has a trucking business and he often has to patch the curtain sides so he bought a welder.

In the meantime, if the hole is small, try Tenacious Tape. It's brilliantstuff.
