Hi,

We are going on our first trailer tent holiday in 3 weeks - through Germany, Switzerland and Italy - then back through France.

We would be really grateful for any advice re:packing the trailer and back of the car - we have a Sunncamp 400SE which we bought second hand but in excellent condition with no instructions and a Nissan X-trail.

We put the whole thing up last summer - and all the canvas/beds etc have been stored in the airing cupboard over winter.

Do you leave the cabin inner tents and mattresses and the cabin canvas over the cabin frame to travel or do you take the canvas off? And is it easier to pack the awning into the cabin under the seats with the poles to travel and pack your clothes in the boot of the car?  Or should you have enough room to pack clothes under the seats too? We have a new ground sheet and portaloo.

And final basic question - sorry - for overnight stops you can just put up the cabin section I presume and leave the awning for longer stays?

Thanks very much for your help

Steph

Welcome to UKCS. Here goes:

You re-attach the cabin canvas to the frame and leave it there until next winter. You fit the innertents with the mattress inside. Just unclip from the frame and fold on top of mattress. Usually most people pack poles in the trailer well, but the awning canvas folded on top of the main canvas. Clothes and food in car. Everything else in trailer, with pegs etc easy to get at. Overnight stays if possible just use the cabin. Saves about 30 to 40 minutes set up time.

you will find downloadable instructions for your tent here:

Leave the canvas on for sure. Some people even leave the awning canvas zipped on and folded back over the cabin canvas, although that's probably a trick to pull when you know your TT a little better...

Thanks very much all of you! We are really excited to be going with the trailer tent - we usually hire a house but felt that the kids would enjoy this more!

Cheers

Steph
