Our trailer tent has always been charged as a tent, because it needs a "soft" pitch we can peg into all the way round. Folding campers on the other hand are far more like caravans in their requirements as they have a "hard" section that can be pitched on a hard standing with the awning needing only the same pegging underfoot as a caravan awning.

Does it matter though? Usually the unit+2 +EHU price is much the same.

A recent site that we were on wanted to charge us tent rate, £8pn per person plus £3pn for the hook up, the reason given was that we took up more room than a caravan because of the awning. I asked how much they charged for a caravan and was told that an inclusive electric pitch was £16 per night, I asked how much they charged for a caravan awning and was told that it was free! When I pointed out that as we use probably the smallest FC that there is we are smaller than a caravan and awning they reluctantly charged us caravan rate, over 5 nights that was £15 in my pocket not theirs. £15 would not have broke the bank for me but why should I pay more for exactly the same as the guy next to me with a 20 odd foot caravan?

I do not know what the answer is except to ask questions about cost before booking and to say "I won't bother then" if they insist on overcharging you.
