Hi all
Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but here goes. Away at weekend in f/c (crusader, 1999). Tried using the oven, but the flame was yellow and wouldnt stay lit (dyed out after about 1 minute). As I have a scientific background, I assumed this was a result of lack of oxygen. However, even with the door open, it was still yellow (didnt leave it to see if it stayed lit). Given that even with the door open it was yellow, lack of oxygen is less likely. Do you think that the burner/injector just needs a good clean?
Any help appreciated
Regards
Mark
Oh dear, that would explain why we could not get our oven working properly recently. We thought it was the wind outside blowing out the flame but I don't think we took any cover off before using!!! I had not realised there was a cover for the oven gas though have seen the water heater and fridge ones!
I phoned Pennine when we first had our Pathfinder because I couldn't get the oven to stay alight and they said to leave the cupboard door under the oven open when the oven was on as there is a vent in the floor and leaving the door open helps the air circulate. Never had a problem since apart from catching my toe on the corner of the door nearly every trip.
I have never seen a vent on the outside for the oven. There are the upper and lower vents on the outside behind the fridge, but nothing for the oven. Nor is there a cupboard underneath the oven. The more I think about it, the more I think the burner/gas injector need cleaning, as the flames were yellow even with the oven door open. I plan to give it a good clean over the next few days, and then try lighting it again.
oh good, not doing something wrong then but will try keeping the bottom cupboard open to see if that makes a difference. It was quite windy outside so we had blamed that.
We did do something stupid that trip, lighting the water heater on gas by accident! the cover was still on and basically there was a loud bang and the cover blew off!! We were scared to look what had happened (as we did not know we had put gas water heater on) and Oh thought that the dog had chewed through the ehu and blown himself up!!!! Nothing quite so dramtic much to our relief and no damage done as far as we could see but was starting to worry again after reading the above on oven covers!
