Hello all. Do you need to insure a trailer tent like you do for caravans or folding campers? Just been quoted £52.50. What is insured?

I would say yes to your first question, and the quote you got would depend on the value of your unit and what coverage you were getting for that quote.Cheers.Alex

As with all insurance, it's a form of gambling. Mine is £60 a year, which I pay monthly so I don't notice the hit at all. This includes £1000 worth of contents, which isn't insured for theft, but is for fire, storm damage, flood etc. The tent is insured for theft, but not the contents.

It it worth paying £60 a year, or £52.50 in your case? As with house insurance, it would be if you ever needed it. It depends on the cost of your unit I guess.

depends if you can take the hit if damaged in a storm. I recovered £1800 from my wrecked pennine aztec a couple of years back.

Our 1988 conway cardinal has just been written off by some a..h...s messing in 4x4's in the bad weather in Jan. It was insured (£50 yrly with caravan guard) and I can honestly say they have been brilliant - paying out almost the full amount it was insured for (less excess) which means we have money to replace it if we choose. Without insurance we would have had to go back to one of the tents I have accumulated. So for me the £50 spend per year (owned it for four years) was worth it. it also gave us piece of mind re theft not just of the camper but also the contents especilly when we were on site.

hope this helps Nina.

I paid extra money to my household insurer to include it in what I think they called my 'all risks extension'. It was about £45, but it means that the contents are covered on the same basis as my household contents - new for old. Not the 25yo camper, though that is insured too. They are all covered for accidental damage on site or en route, fire and theft, there are boring terms about weather/storms/acts of God, but fundamentally if it were damaged by weather such as a storm, it is covered. I insure with my bank and get enhanced cover because I have a 'gold account' which i pay for, but it is always worth asking your household insurer which of your possessions is insured when they are away from your home and on what terms. They never seem to place much emphasis on it as a selling point,so some people may have more cover than they know.
