CC here with a dandy, never had any attitude problems but never seen a trailer tent or folding camper when we have used there CL sites.
Look for the one that has the most sites of interest to you each year, then swap and change.

------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
I've been using CC sites for a few years. I've had a few people ask me about the FC but only out of curiosity. I've never felt out of place or unwanted.
I joined the CC a year ago. I have stayed on a 3 CC sites and experienced no snobbery or 'being looked down on' even in my 25yo camper. In fact those who have commented have usually said very positive things about the amount of space inside and not having to make and unmake beds. I have had friendly help when it was needed without having to ask and their sites are very high quality - we are returning to one for our main holiday this summer.
I do find it a bit frustrating that they choose not to distinguish between a TT and an FC, I know it's a bit petty of me and it makes little difference in terms of suitable pitches etc, but having owned both, they are not the same!
Well the 2 official rallies I've been on with the TT were fantastic. Lots of people came over (new toy feeling) and some even started years ago in a TT and said they had some of there best holidays in it
My In-Laws run this rally and we go along to help. I was nice to finally go as a rallier.
I would like people's comments, especially regarding the Caravan Club, in relation to a reply I have had from C&CC regarding the "classification" of my Conway Countryman.
I quote "I have checked the details of the Conway Countryman and can confirm that, as it is soft topped and effectively a fabric structure which is carried in a trailer behind your vehicle it would be classed as a trailer tent." Followed by the statement ". Please also be aware that this is a local bylaw and not a Club policy."
Is this also the Caravan Club's policy? Does the Caravan Club specify the 6 metre between pitches that C&CC does? If so I think I may well change especially as it has more sites.
I have just looked on CC website - my handbook is somewhere but i couldnt locate it quickly. I cannot remember if the club expresses it as a 6m rule, but certainly they require a fire gap between pitches and the pitches I have so far encountered on club sites are very spacious indeed.
As i posted earlier, it doesnt differentiate between between TTs and FCs. To me the only important distinction is that the 'cabin' of a TT requires pegging whereas the awning of an FC is the only bit that needs pegs. In terms of pitch types the caravan club has more hardstandings which you may not like if you have to peg out.
According to the Pennine website, the Conway Countryman (2010 model), and the others in the range, is classed as a 'convertible caravan'. I suppose you could interchange that with 'folding camper' depending on your choice of site.
I'm not sure what the implications of the C&CC classification of the Countryman mean. On their website they have actually stated that it's a folding camper as opposed to a trailer tent: http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk/helpandadvice/gettingstarted/newtotrailertents/trailertenttypes/
We haven't tried getting onto the caravan only sites with either club yet, although we had thought about it.
We've just joined the CC (already being members of the C&CC for some time) and stayed at Incleborough Fields recently. We certainly did not feel 'looked down on' by the caravan owners there.
We had a conway classic trio for ten years and we only stayed on caravan club sites or cls, As far as i am aware we were always made welcome and never looked down on, in fact the only comments made to was regarding the size of it and how much living space we had as the classic trio was the largest trailer tent around at the time.
Dunc.
------------- Why have kids when you can have a dog?
We're members of CC and have never felt out of place. We often get complimentary comments about what an amazing idea/invention the FC is.
And to be honest, our FC is in much better condition than some of the caravans that turn up on sites.
Although we do often attract a crowd when setting up as I think its bit of a novelty, well at least I hope that's what it is!
We use a Conway Countryman to attend many weekend rallies with both clubs.
We are usually the only folding camper on site but have always been made welcome by other members using caravans/motorhomes as many of them started off as campers some years ago and are often interested to see how well fitted a folding camper is, especially when we point out that we have TWO fixed double beds
We mostly use the C&CC rallies as there is no need to book so we just turn up depending on the weather reports so that we can mostly avoid a wet pack away.
If they don't have a rally nearby then we check the CC listing and phone the steward to book a pitch and have always had great weekends and been made to feel welcome. We are never able to travel to far due to work but hadn't realised there were so many good listed sites within an hours drive from home.
