Hi
I've recently purchased a 1986 hard top conway tardis. Being a novice to folding campers i'm having a little difficulty in trying to get the fridge to work. Does anyone have any instructions manuals for the camper or could they tell me how I can get the fridge working on gas.

kind regards

The conway site is very good. I have an 86 tardis also, just in case you don't know, the fridge is 2 way - gas/12v no 240v option. From what I have gathered the burners and flue need to be clean and sometimes things have 'settled' so the advice is to take the fridge out and turn it upside down for some time, then try lighting it.

It is also the case that the unit has to be very level indeed for the fridge to work. People on the conway site will be able to give more in depth instructions on how to do any of that.

The other thing that I found by chance, was that there should be sleeves to cover the 4 telescopic poles, mine didnt have any and i would never have known they are missing, but they are essential to protect the roof mechanism and floor of the camper at the corners from rain. Just thought i'd mention it

I hope you love yours as much as we do ours!

Thanks for that advise This may seem like a silly question but how do I go about lighting it?? Never used a gas fridge before always taken my EHU and electric fridge.
Also, mine is also missing the pole covers. Any ideas on where to source some others?
kind regards

I found mine on ebay, they do occasionally crop up so it's worth saving a search for them. Other places to try would be

http://www.tentvaletingservices.co.uk/

ringing graham is better than email, they have any remaining conway spares and if all else fails would be able to make some.

The fridge is operated from outside the camper, there's a switch on the left hand side that you have to use to make sure it's not set to 12v. After that (assuming it's all connected up to the gas) on the right hand side is a cylinder shape with a little metal box underneath there's a little metal disc you have to slide to one side to be able to see the pilot light. There's a horizontal metal pipe running from the cylinder towards another 'box' with a dial on it. Slightly to the right of this second box there is a blue or black elongated button sticking down from the pipe (apologies for total and utter lack of technical language) on mine you push this up to light the pilot, if the piezzo has gone you may need to use a match, then you have to hold it for a while.

I hope that makes sense. As it's gas if you want much more technical instructions then

http://www.conwayowners.org.uk/

someone on there will be able to provide it (if someone that can type faster than me hasn't already done it on here!) or direct you to a reputable person in your area that can help.

Hope that's some use!
