Hi i towed our tt for the first time couple of weeks ago, and for the first mile was very apprehensive more that I had not attached the trailer properly AS others have said take it easy and you'll be fine
I felt physically sick when I saw the size of our dandy but I gave it a go at towing it back home and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
You will be fine and probably not notice it's there.
We are going on holiday with ours this weekend and are facing at least a 7hr journey.
Whereabouts in Essex are you. if you near the A414 it is not too bad a road.As Hertford site is not far away. If you were going to be on your own I was going to ask my nephew he would of helped you out he is that sort of man.He is in Harlow. But your not alone.
I did a sprite caravn just after I passed my test in 1986 up the M! but not so much traffic then. But it was okay.
When we had a trailer though especially a little one behind our VW camper we could not see that either. We saw someone had stuck a painted stick stuck up in the air attached to their A frame or for you tralier bar.Just let them know it was till there. Since then I have seen quite a few of them.
Chrissie - I live in Harlow too and am not far from the A414! My Hubby is going to take us out tomorrow so i can have a go at driving with the trailer attached. I feel a lot more confident now after reading everyones replies!
Got up this morning and didn't even think about it, went to the garage hitched up and went for a small drive. Encountered roundabouts, traffic lights and bends and was fine!
Really don't know why i made a fuss!
I just hope i don't panic on Wednesday morning with the 4 kids in the car!!

Congratulations, don't worry I was very nervous before I did my first trip. Did you try reversing ?
No, wasn't keen on trying that yet! I'm hoping as i'm going on Wednesday and leaving Harlow and jumping on the M11 & M25 then A127 straight into the camp site i won't need to reverse!!
If you have a small short trailer dont bother trying unless you realy need to reverse, the smaller they are the worse they are there is many a proficient caravan reverser that would struggle with a small trailer, with a 15 -25ft trailer you see the back corner start to go in the wrong direction and think i will correct that, with a short trailer its probably already going in the wrong direction when you see it.
------------- they said it couldnt be done so i left it and went camping
a bad days camping is better than a good day at work
