If you are only using low wattage stuff then you can always run your EHU from an inverter, running either from your car or leisure battery.
I did this on my recent trip and it worked just fine for charging torch/lantern batteries and running a portable DVD player. You just need to remember to switch it off when you are done for the night, although I reckon we still would have got the car started in the morning and I did have a decent set of jump leads with me, but I didn't take the risk.
An inverter with a remote switch would be nice though, I can see a project coming on
