hi all

i have been offered a triango ranger 575 lx by one of my customers as payment for work she would like doing, as her husband has left her, her children have grown up  and she no longer wants to go camping

so a few questions

how do i find out the year it was made? (all i know is it looks brand new and the canvas is blue and cream (i will be going round tomorrow so is it going to be on the chassis plate? or printed/stamped anywhere))

the lady is a cleaning freak by the looks of her home it is spotless as is the camper

she says its 6 birth, is this going to be 2 double fold downs and 2 single underbed pods?

the work she wants me to do i would normaly charge around 700 to 800 pounds for, what is the kind of second hand price?(she thinks it was made around 2002/2004 but she is not sure) (i can only find one on ebay that has 5 days to go and its on 200 pounds at the min

any pointers or advice is much apreciated as i was looking for a trailer tent to replace our 6 birth frame tent anyway so i am seriousley concidering taking her up on the offer

If the work you are doing normally costs £7-800 i reckon you could afford to do the work and give her a couple of hundred quid and still have a bargain!

thanks for your replies

from what i can see everything looks mint(i have had a suncamp frame tent for 8 years(along with several newer nylon  tents :p ) and look after it like its a baby, this camper looks like she treated this folding camper the same way i do, not a mark on it i can see)

but ive only seen the camper and camper canvas so far i have not seen the awning canvas at all

i have done several jobs for this lady and her husband over the years so i have a good relationship with her and trust her word, as she has trusted me with her house keys on several jobs

along with the fact that she is a clean freak im sure she would point out any tiny spots i missed :p

the trailer from outside looks brand new

owayne im like you, if the camper is worth much more than the work i would give her some money, i would rather her pass my name on than think she got a bad deal,

thats why im asking for the value, i cant find a second hand value as only one on ebay at the min 200 quid with 5 days to go

i have found others on the internet but they are just asking prices from  600 to 4500 pounds, asking prices only tell you what the seller thinks they are worth im wanting to find out an average price that the actual worth is

its hard for me as im not a buyer so i dont have a figure in mind that i want to pay as i dont want to buy it

i want to either do the work and then sell it on and buy my trailer tent, or do the work and fall in love with the half a van :p:p

being a canvas camper the half a van doesnt realy apeal to me :p and working repairing caravans for years i know im right to stay under canvas :p

Here's a link to an old catalogue:

http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/ENFXTkiZPYYQmIKFKXyHje3Gb8fjZQQh45Nce2Jw1pvQMxZ1sMCiKnR_fMvxzNx7aw1HeRJt80YAaQz7VZnBk6c3KPh2oJOUQ0s/Trigano%202003v2.pdf

The colour changed from green to blue around 2004/5. There is also a date stamp on the wheels that will give an indication of the age. If you need any more help it may be worth joining the Trigano owners group:

Hope this helps.

There are some adverts on UKCS that will give you an idea of prices.

http://www.camperlands.co.uk/trigano-randger-575tc-folding-campers/

Have a look at the spec pics.  I am not sure really that it feels like a half van!!!  when you use it and you don't seem to get the same issues that many caravans get (damp)  Owing a 2003 pathfinder, (pennine version of this) you can see that they stand up well to being used for many years and you are still sleeping under canvas.  Really think of it as a more equiped TT rather than half a caravan.

We own a Raclet Tamaris which is the same as the Randger 575 TC and have just toured Europe for a month with it.   Despite the wettest European summer in living memory it was totally waterproof and cosy.  The awning is big (and heavy) but small lightweight ones can be adapted for touring.   There is some indication that fittings are perhaps not as robust as Pennine/Conway but they were made to a 'price'.  However, they are lighter than the equivelant Conway/Pennine and tow delightfully.

I would say that you have a bargain on your hands.   We particularly like the way the end bedroom can become 'en suite' and the brighter colours.  Go for it and enjoy.  A trip to Camperlands could possible help.  I love ours.

thanks all for your help

it seems as it is pre 2002 as the trailer itself is stippled/bubbled ally

at end of 2002 they changed to the flat smooth ally

or so the very very nice guy at camperlands told me today on the phone

Still think you've done well.    I see that it has the original awning.  We hold parties in ours.  To give you am idea, you'll need a tent carpet/ground sheet 6 metres long and 2 meters wide.  There is plenty o room to put a toilet tent inside for night time or just a simple divider for a portapotti.  If the curtains are like ours they will be brocade on poles and give the awning a very cosy feeling.  Their weight also damps down any canvas 'slap' in breezy conditions.  Check out the rubber bands that hold the bedroom and lounge awnings in place as they can/do deteriorate but are not expensive to replace.  Do you also have the end skirt and wheel skirt?

The chassis is robust and carries weight well, ie, lots of wine from France.   A fair bit of kit can be carried laid flat on the sofa and we carry folding chairs on the top under the cover.  This helps with rain run off and airing.   Enjoy your FC!

thanks for the pointers fidgad,

just got to work out how much money i should give her now so as to make it all fair

she only wants the work doing which as i said would stand me at 800 quid including labour, but i wouldnt feel right if its worth more than that

it has the canvas that goes under the beds if thats what you mean, it has the skirt that goes along the bottom yes,

its basicaly as it was bought i cant see a mark on it or the trailer,

but havnt had chance to put it all up properly yet as its been raining

Put it up as soon as possible especially in the rain when there is a dry period forcast.  The canvas will benefit from a soaking and then drying out.  This tightens the weft and increases the waterproofing quality.  That's not so important for the awning but that will benefit also from similar treatment.   Last bit of info.  Take note of the nose weight.  They tow much better with weight on the front and are less likely to wiggle.  I carry the awning in the fromt locker with skirts etc and the poles alongside the stove/sink unit.  This gives a good nose weight especially if using the new lightweight gas bottle.
