We've just returned from our first trip in our pennine pullman which was very successful. We had torrential rain at night and was glad to Say in the mornings had no leaks....However there were a few circles on the canvas that looked and felt wet to the touch. Should we waterproof It this season? It is a 1995 model and the last owner assured us It has never been waterproofed before.

if me i would leave it alone the marks will be stains from something or the other, but this does not mean the canvas will leak.once you waterproof once, you will have to do maybe once a year.

another vote for leaving it, if it doesn't leak it's doing its job just fine as it is!

Circles, eh? I suspect some kid has been playing with bubbles near it if the circles are only an inch or two across. The detergent residue left by popping bubbles can affect the waterproofing ability of cotton canvas.

If you're worried I suggest you try to rinse out as much of the (possible) detergent residue as possible. Thick towel pad on inside, wet sponge on the other side. Soak and blot (don't rub), soak and blot. Several times. You'll need to get the possible residue out if you intend to reproof btw as proofer won't grip well on detergent residue. So give the rinsing technique a try first and see how it performs next time out. If you're still getting the circle effect try rinsing again. If you do end up reproofing then clean the entire canvas with a recommended canvas cleaner, including any recommended rinsing, then go from there. But it's a big job to reproof a canvas so it's best avoided if at all possible.

Wouldn't do it any harm to reproof - just buy a can of the stuff and spray the roof on the next dry no wind day

sorry but not true, because if there are stains and those stains stop the fabsil from taking hold, you will have a canvas only partly waterproof.with the added cost of cleaning the canvas and reproofing.this will get exspensive fast.
