I bought this hoping that i could open it up myself......however i am finding it quite difficult....although i can open it ...i am worried that i might do myself an injury..!!Has anyone any tips on opening the FC single handed.

Has anyone fitted gas strutts?

May have to cut my losses and buy a caravan which i am not keen on towing.

(I am 5ft 2inches and about 81/2 stone)

Last summer when my OH was incapacitated for a few weeks I had to open our Challenger on my own a couple of times, I found it easy (easier) to open standing on the caravan step, I pulled it to vertical and then lowered it as I moved off the step. I hope that this makes sense and is useful for you, it would be a shame to have to use a caravan.

Mike

as you have already had a go at it, take a step back and see where it is the most awkward as you attempt to open up/close down, as in the first reply could you use a step to help you through the position where the bed boards are in the between stage of not quite upright and going over to fold out, that is the most trying point of erecting imo and where you may be adding on an awning, try a 3 piece step where that apex of the awning is just "out of reach" little things with a bit of forethought will get you over your little quandry, and give you `endless love` and happy times with your new unit,, dont be put off at your first attempt,

I would agree with the previous comments, if you are like me its the getting the bed boards out first that is the hardest bit! I would stand on a step and lift them up and then almost drop them down but keep your hand on the metal bar that brings them up.

I am feeling more positive about this knowing that other people have thought about this problem too.

Gas struts are terrific ... no probs with single-handed opening.
However, I don't have a clue as to whether you can replace your existing ones ... maybe Pennine can help ... or other members ... might be worthwhile starting a new thread: 'Gas Struts for Conway Countryman?' ... and see who supplies information.

Try talking to Graham Shuck at Tent Valeting Services 01204 708131. He is the Conway expert and if anyone knows if it can be done he will.
