Can the 1450 diesel A2 safely tow a loaded Camplet Concorde which I believe is 500K max?
Also can one put the camplet up and down without getting the beds wet in inclement weather?
Thanks Guys.

Theory has it that the beds stay dry. However,in a proper downpour they are likely to get wet, mainly from the soggy canvas sitting on them, and rain blowing in as you close the back up. We use 2 old shower cutains for protection against water and mud.

Thanks Miserly,I suspected that might be the answer. Your solution sounds good though. When I retire I am looking to get this model and do an extensive tour of Europe, it was the ease of erection and folding together with storage size and weight which has guided me thus far.
I have had Conway, Mirror and two Combi's before, but none of these fit my current criteria.
I would welcome other users + and - points regarding strength and durability, and also must have accessories. i.e are alloys really necessary?
Thanks

Just checked autotrader, max towing weight unbraked is 540kg, or 1000kg braked.

Only one must have, slatted beds. There is an optional raised bed base too. A sun canopy is nice. If I had the choice,I would have a Royal with its peaked canopy and higher kitchen (although the Concorde is available with a Royal kitchen.)  A front box is good, but not a camplet one! Bike racks seem a bit pointless,as do camplets own insulation mats. Amazingly,a jockey wheel is an option! If you find lifting difficult then the gas assisted strut models are better, which rules out older units. As for strength and durability, the framework and canvas are great, but the little things like pole clamps and wingnuts let it down a bit.All Isabella stuff too. The trailer is pretty much rot proof,I know glass fibre can suffer from osmosis, but i have never heard of it with a Camplet. With Owaynes bit of research, you should easily tow it up the Alps!

You'll just about be OK with an unbraked 500kg trailer on a Diesel (absolutely fine if the Camplet has brakes - not one I know I'm afraid)).

For unbraked trailers the maximum actual weight must be no greater than the lower of the vehicle manufacturer's towing limit or 50% of the kerbside weight of the tow vehicle.

Looking at the usual source (http://www.cuddles.abelgratis.net/audi.htm) a 1.4TDi A2 Kerbside Weight is between 1020kg (2005 on 75ps model) and1113kg (2001-2004 model).

You also want to make sure you don't exceed the max noseweight which Cuddles quotes as 50kg. That shouldn't be a problem with such a light trailer though.

Glen

Thanks guys really useful. It intrigues me that there is no-one else selling this apparently wonderful trailer. I mean, it's a long haul up to Manchester to view, place order and return again to collect. Can't they have an agreement with a Southern dealer so that one can at least see and feel the thing in the flesh? I have read their blurb where they give you some accessories in lieu of your time and costs but it still isn't ideal.

The camplet itself is 250kg, but with additional bits of your own equipment loaded the trailer can take up to 500kg.

We didn't get on with our Camplet concorde, it was sold with in a year, you should be able to tow it with any car, the trailer is very light.

There are lots for sale on Ebay/here/preloved, just google it.
