Another question, what model hard top folding campers have the cassette toilets in?

Was scouring the web searching for pennine pathfinders and conway crusaders and then realised there was a whole new option of hard top folding campers out there.

Conway cardinals but only the later models 1998 onwards- and they stopped making them in 2001.

There are several for sale on the Conway Owners club but be careful - at least two on there are advertised as 1998 but do not have the toilet compartment!

Are there any advantages/disadvantages between the hard tops and canvas tops?

The other thing we noticed when looking at the crusader and pathfinders is some fold out and some slide out, again any advantages/disadvantages?

We loved our hardtops - had two, one 1991 without the loo compartment and one 1998.  They are easy to put up because you just wind the roof up (attaching the awning to the rail when the roof is at shoulder height) and pull out the beds.  The canvas goes up with the roof, only leaving the bed pod canvas to be fastened down. The construction of the loo compartment is a bit of a faff but easy enough when you have done it a couple of times.

Our Cardinal had to stay out in the garden but this is less of a problem with a hard top and, as the roof is held down with padlocks, it is as secure as anything outside can be.
