Last newyears eve we took a vw camper to the quiet site at the lakes, was nice and fresh, wrapped up and walked 30mins down hill for the afternoon in the blackenrig inn overlooking the lake, had a gallon of drink 'in the warm' in front of the nice log fire and chatted to lots of people, staggered 40mins back up the hill to the camper and sat 'in the warm' as we'd left the blowheater on and made tea! Saw the newyear in at the onsite pub sat 'in the warm'that night in front of their log fire,in my element guy to my left once owned a vw camper and guy to right was in his!! played pool and ate at the free buffet, got a little dizzy and don't remember going back to the camper to sleep 'in the warm'! Also spent weekend at Keswick in feb, snow on the tops and frozen lake! Really beautiful at the lakes around this time of year, tend to see more when there is no leaves on trees! So get wrapped up, leave the heater on and get out there!!!
------------- Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around once in a while, you could miss it.!

A lot will depend upon the site you choose, and if you are on EHU, which I would consider essential. We went with friends, us in our caravan and our friends in a folding camper. The site had a swimming pool, gym, bar, cafe and also did a christmas day 5 course lunch, and at night a disco for the children. It was below freezing and once in bed everyone was warm. We had a BBQ Xmas eve which was very enjoyable, during the daytime we went for walks and sightseeing. I am looking to go again, in the caravan, this year, but as yet have not booked anywhere. There are some that will be going in tents, so as long as you have the proper equipment then there should not be a problem, although you may be considered mad!!
