Also what weight is the car. A recommended 85% trailer to car ratio still stands for all weights.

My car can in theory tow 2000kgs but that would be a 118% match so I wouldn't fancy that

I personally wouldn't tow anything more than a light trailer tent with a 1 litre simply due to excessive strain on the engine and mechanicals. Ideally a 1.6 petrol or 1.4 diesel or above and no auto box below about 2ltr unless towing something very light

As above could and should are very different

Thanks, I'm giving up on the idea I think.  Though the Dandys do look light.

I've found another website, UK toww???  that says my car can't tow more than 650kg.  I think even with a light folding camper by the time there is a week's worth of stuff I'm going to be close to the limit.  I didn't realise stuff in the car had to be taken off the towing amount.

I don't want a trailer tent - looks like too much hassle to put up.  Even the new ones.

Have a look at a Combi Camp. Fibreglass body, so very light weight. The main cabin, which provides raised bed & solid living room floor, erects in less than a minute - the awning takes another fifteen minutes. These are often towed by motorbikes, so your car should be able to manage it
