Hello, new here. We have just picked up a Lamont trailer tent at the weekend (it is mounted on an Erka trailer) My question is, does anyone have an instruction manual for one of these please?

I have just opened it up this morning & as the seller said (on ebay) it smells 'mustie'. I'm sure everything is there but I've had to take off the canvass & all the covers & things to wash. Looks like it will be a good investment. No stove or anything with it, but at the price I can't knock it.
                      Thanks in advance
                             Norm & Val.

Hi. Welcome to the forum.

Sorry, can't help with the instructions but be careful how you wash the canvas. Detergent will ruin the waterproofing.

Regards,

RichG

Hi, Thanks for the tip & the welcome. I do intend to clean it but will give it a liberal dose of Fabsil or suchlike. Just not able to tackle it right now with the weather being as it is, like you say I'll have to be careful anyway no matter how do it.
                 Thanks again.

Why not just hang the canvas out in the 'weather'?  If it's a bit musty it probably needs the fresh air and a bit of weathering should increase the waterproof qualities. Then let it dry gradually.  Just a suggestion.

If the canvas is contaminated with a detergent of any kind apart from a cleaning agent specifically designed for tent fabrics. you stand a very good risk of damaging the waterproofing & a waterproofer may not water proof the canvas again.
apart from that once any waterproofer has been used it has to be done on a regular basis thereafter, where as an untreated canvas can remain water proof for as long as 20 years. if the canvas is dirty only use clean water to try to clean it

Thanks guys, I think hanging out & weathering is the way to go then. With water only to clean it.

It is in good condition to say the plate states 1980 as year of manufacture (At least as far as the trailer goes anyway) So now I just need to figure out how to fit all the poles together in the right order, but I can do that without the canvas on it anyway. Then colour code with tape. Thanks again all.
                      Norm.

Hello again, We worked out the way  to erect the tent. There were extra poles for an awning that we forgot about & we were trying to utilise them. Once we realised that fact we were sorted haha.

Also aired the canvas out & it has lost the musty smell. Curtains have been washed & sorted too.

                     cheers folks

I live closer to Chirk than Wrexham.  There is a nice little site at Pentre between Cefn Mawr  and Chirk with great access to walks along the Llangollen canal plus ths CC site at Chirk.  Message me when you're coming to the area.

bw Frank

That's great, thank you for that. Don't know when it will be exactly, but we'll be sure to give you a shout when we do. Thanks again Frank.
