I have two dogs and would like to make sure they can go in the awning without getting underneath , i will mostly use my adapted porch awning. The older dog would not stray far but i have a younger dog who is still excited about EVERYTHING and may go off and explore life before she realises she's lost. I am still quite a novice on pegging out the awning so advice on getting that pegged out well, would also be appreciated any thoughts would be greatly received :)

When ours were still at the inquistive puppy stage I tethered them on a screw in lead tether when they were in the awning bit. Then, even if they did the Houdini bit, they couldn't get far.

Pre zig we had to tether our dog as well, it was a bit of a pain if I'm honest. If you are using a tether I'd recommend the Delta one rather than the screw in type, its excellent.
------------- All the best,

Have to agree with that, I have one which I use with a 3m cable. It's flush to the ground so you don't trip over it like you can with the corkscrew type ones. When I'm camping with my drive away awning I peg it just outside and pass the cable under the mudwall so the dogs can wander round inside. If I'm using the tent then I just use the tether and cable outside as the tent has a sig.

As for pegging the awning, just do the corners first starting with the bit next to the camper (make sure all doors are done up first ) Then the two front corner legs, then the centre leg. then fill in the gaps. there is usually a seam to peg in line with. I also cross peg (using 2 pegs) at the bottom of zips that I am not going to use often, do it right and you wont be getting up in the middle of a cold wet windy night! Forgot to say keep all pegs in a straight line

We do exactly the same as blues when setting up and we find putting a keyring on the zips makes them easier to pull round into place. Happy camping :)

Is your young dog crate-trained? If so, do you have room to take the crate with you, to use as her bed? That way, she'll feel safe and you'll know she's sescure.
