Hi all, trying to find out if anyone knows if there is a guide for second hand values of trailer tents as have been asked for market value for my 10 year old Conway by a few insurance companies, and as it was given to me by my parents I am not sure what the market value would be. Can any body help?

You could try looking on preloved to see how much a second hand one is going for.

Firstly, welcome to the forum where help is always at hand. The answer is no there isn't a guide available as far as I know but there is one for caravans called Glassy's but is only available to caravan dealers and insurance companies. Actually the insurance companies do have some knowledge of how much your tralier tent is worth because for whatever price you pay for a trailer tent they will only ever offer the book price as a maximum payout in the event of a claim. In other words, if you told them it was worth £8,000 they would be quite happy to insure it for that and take your money but I bet they wouldn't pay that sum out if it was a write off because they have a guide to an indication as to what the specific value is. They have to have this because if there was ever a legal dispute between the insurance company and a customer then both parties would have to provide evidence in court. The insurance company would most likely win on the grounds that that their payout was fair and legal by submitting the appropriate details to the judge. The insurance companies don't want to tell you what the value is because they are hoping you will provide a higher value in order to obtain a higher quote which in turn creates more profit. When I wanted to insure my caravan last year I contacted around six independent insurance companies for a quote. Each and every one I asked what the current book price was. Four of them revealed the value and two refused saying they didn't know. Well that shortened my list straight away and they certainly didn't get my custom. What you need to do is when you ask for an insurance quotation ask them how they would make a payout on a claim if they have no idea of the value and see what their response is. The Camping & Caravanning Club have an insurance section for all sorts of leisure so you could try them if you are member.

I can only recommend C&CC as they are very helpful.   My other comment is that TT/FC/Caravan insurance is not just on the value of the unit replacement/repair.  The insurance also copvers other liabilities such as damage caused by 'runaway' traler incidents, third parties and overseas travel.  Worth every penny for the piece of mind.  The insurance cost can be adjusted to your requirements normally.

Thanks for everyones advice, however I did call insurance for trailer tents www.insurancefortrailertents.co.uk , they were very helpful and gave me some idea of values, they have given me a discount of 10% as I am now a UK campsite member. So all in all it was very much worth signing up to UK Campsite as I have found helpful members and saved money on my insurance, saved about £20 compared to best other quote and very helpful. Lets just hope they service carrys on like that should i need to make a claim!

If youre planning to go abroad camping check out the countries they IFTT cover.  Not ALL of EC countries are covered by them, i.e Poland.

I found insurancefortrailertents.co.uk about 20% cheaper for TT insurance compared to Caravan Guard.

Glad you finally got sorted out with insurance and at least now you have received some knowledge on the valuation. Happy camping!
