Anyone got one of these quite like the way it opens no pegging as its only me and a small dog it looks just the
thing. The top is obviously fibre glass with a roof rack
on and you step on to it as your base for living. Would it
be durable enough for people to walk about on it ? As i
am new to camping would this be a good model to start with?
any advice much appreciated.

We used to have a Solena.

The fibreglass top is very strong & capable of withstanding walking on. The Solena was a lightweight camper & easy to store.

If you do decide to buy one I would advise you to make sure it has a full awning with it, even if you don't need it.

It would be difficult to resell later without an awning as it gives so much more living space.

We toured with ours staying overnight & moving on the next day, so the quick & easy set up was ideal. If we were staying longer we used the awning.

The Comanche Montana is on the same lines & worth looking at. Whatever you get, make it a cheap one,you may hate it! Very good advice about an awning.

Last year we were looking at the Solena or Montana and a Montana happened to come along first (pic in gallery). I am still on the lookout for a friend and neither have come up too often and seem to hold their price quite well.

We love ours - so quick to erect - you can pack a lot inside as well as on the hard top. One thing I do find though is that the top is quite heavy for me to open and close on my own (my fella doesn't have a problem) and, although I have done it, I find the awning is quite tricky to put up solo!

If you need any further help re the Montana just shout!

Hi

I've got a Solena. Got to be the best idea I ever had!

I camp solo with my two dogs and I find it is ideal for me. The lid is heavy and can be awkward and putting the tent up is nowhere as easy as Raclet's video would suggest, but with the use of a prop to hold the lid half up as I work around and then a little caravan step to hold the lid off the ground while I put the clips on I find I manage on my own. Even the awning is a piece of cake now (although have not had to put it up in windy or rainstorm conditions and hope never have to)

I have a front storage box and I can also get loads in the base of the trailer. The only bit I am not keen on is the bed base. Mine is a 2004 model and has 2 mdf boards that provide the base. These are hinged approx three quarters of the way across the base and have to be propped up to access the stuff from underneath. I am always worried that they will fall down while I am reaching underneath and they are some weight. Am looking at improvements for that before the season starts.

I can leave the dogs in the bedroom section if I pop to the shower etc as the door zips right round and separates the sleeping area from the awning. Having the solid floor also means their padded bed is not in direct contact with the damp ground (it rained every time I got away last year)

It is easy enough to manouevre by hand, and tows like a dream. It suits me really well and has given me the opportunity to get out and about as I know I can manage it on my own.

Forgot to say, hadn't camped for 30 plus years other than a few stays in static caravans (nowhere near the same I know!), and with my brothers having caravans I wanted to have the opportunity to tag along with them and didn't fancy a traditional tent but wanted something I could manage

Consider a Combi Camp as well. I've had two of them and they are a bit easier to flip over as the rack goes first to act as a counterbalance for the roof/floor, helping with the weight.

Hi Ranger

yes I have one of these and have found it to be superb. the roof becomes the floor and is really solid to  walk on. The space under the bed is great stoage so no need to  pack each time you go away cos it all stays in the trailer except bedding. . I have three small dogs and we have ample room.

I have loved mine but am now moving to a camper van so if you are intersted in buying check my advert or email me autuma57 at hotmail.com
