I agree with Piglet...they serve different purposes. For years we had Cabanons and were always warm and snug, but they did require more time and strength to put up.
As anno domini catches up with you, then lightweight trailer tents, with kitchens on wheels and a ready made bed. become more attractive.
For us the main reason were the beds and set down. I sleep far better in a trailer tent bed as it's more like a normal bed and warmer. I used to find packing our big outwell away intimidating. I bought an old combi camp to try out tt and then 18mths later splashed out on an odyssee this winter. I particularly like that the stuff is stored in the trailer and this spring I'll be sorting it all into stackable plastic boxes to store under the tt bed.
------------- From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!
We'd reached the point where it was another people carrier with roofbox, or a trailer. If we're going to tow we can have proper beds, and I do much prefer the canvas to the synthetic tents we used to use.
I was excited about the kitchen as well, but that hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped.
Over all we are more comfortable in the TT tent than we were in tents. Thats not to say you can't be warm and comfortable in tents, but as a very light sleeper I find mats and sleeping bags hard to manage. We are all tall as well, and we have more headroom in the trailer tent although that would also have been the case with a frame tent.

We slept onw night in a tent at a friends house. They had a big tent that took about an hour to put up, when it was eventually packed into the bag it was very heavy for one to carry any distance. We slept effectively on the ground, it was cold enough, there was no real room to stand up or sit down comfortably.
I think you have to avoid comparing a bad tent set up with a TT. It doesn't have to take an hour to pitch a tent, you don't have to be uncomfortable, cold and unable to stand up. Sounds like your friends were doing a lot of things badly...
It is what suits an individual but it would be hugely wrong to suggest that you can't be warm and comfy in a tent.
Sorry Piglet, I didnt mean to suggest that a tent cant be warm or comfy..apologise for that....yes, purhaps it was badly set up for us...but...I still think a TT is better for the space and set up time :-)
But, as everyone has said it does come down to preferrence... !
well since starting this thread my car has been involved in a hit and run and insurance has deemed it a cat D write off. Luckily with the money I get from insurers I can buy it back, repair it AND fit a tow bar with a bit of money left over . Repairs and towbar are hopefully being fitted saturday and the Boheme is still advertised so may arrange viewing it this weekend , only problem is I have no where to store it as even our garden isn't accessable.
