Hello from a newbie

Just  wondering if anyone can give advice on keeping the FC free from wasps getting inside.  My daughter and I are both a bit scared of them but I don't want to keep the doors and windows shut.  Is there a way to fix up a mesh screen?

i am very scared of wasps and someone on here suggested getting a thing from the garden centre that looks like a wasps nest apparently wasps will not go near another wasps nest and i have to say i used it last year and had no trouble, i even sat outside with freinds and had a cream tea. they come in packs of two so i have one at home near my patio doors as well. i couldnt image it would work but it did.

You can use a 2litre drinks bottle in one leg of a pair of tights hanging up, apparently it looks like a wasps nest when hanging up (and a lot cheaper than the things from the garden centre)

Give a man a fish and he'll feed his family for a day.

Teach a man to fish and he'll sit around on a boat all day drinking beer!

I had a waspinator hanging in my garden all last year.  Didn't stop them building a nest in my loft by getting in under the eaves.

I couldn't have any windows open or sit in the garden. Had to have the nest destroyed and I didn't like that, but wouldn't have wanted my grandchildren being stung. There were hundreds of them.

We tried a waspinator last year and I didn't think it worked very well. Then we met a Dutch family who cut the top off of a 2l coke bottle and turned it upside down inside itself. They left about an inch of fizzy drink in the bottle. Any wasps attracted to the sugary drink flew in the wide neck of the upturned bottle top, but couldn't get back out through the narrow neck and drowned. Their system worked, and soon several of us had copied their idea.

Thanks for all the good ideas.  I am always worried about using traps because doesn't the fizzy drinks and sweet stuff attract wasps towards the campsite?

I think I like the idea of scaring them away so I may try the waspinator.

I also am thinking of finding a way to rig up a mosquito net across the door.

There was a wasps nest in the hedge just outside the campsite, so the wasps were already around the site. The waspinator didn't work for us, which is why we used the fizzy drink bottle trap. Good luck, for a wasp free summer :-)

malt vinegar also helps keep them away, just sprinkle it around the perimeter of your FC and around doors and windows. You have to replace it once a day, but you can literally see the wasps doing a u-turn as soon as they smell it! Also malt vinegar is good for wasp stings.

We have just got the linings out of the loft as we have our camper up for sale, OH heard some buzzing and when he opened the bag, out popped a wasp - he had obviously been asleep over winter.....................
