Just saying hello as today we collected our pullman from an ebay seller. It's a 1991 pullman, but in fab condition for it's age. We have got insurance on it from caravan guard for peace of mind.

I would like to recover the sofa(bed) cushions but not sure of the best way to do it. Any tips?

I also want to make new curtains for camper and awning.

Really excited to have the FC, we have been camping since 2009 and really enjoy it, so hoping we'll enjoy have a FC just as much.

We camped in France last summer which was brilliant, and we are going again this year so can't wait now! Mr Tesco has paid for the euro tunnel crossing, which was nice!

Looking forward to picking up tips from other TT/FC owners.

recovering the cushion pads is really easy. You are just making boxes!

2 pieces of material 10cm bigger than the pad size, and strips of material 10cms longer, and 10cms wider than the depth of the cushion. this allows 5cms to seam top and bottom.  Put a zip along the back lower length,  in first and then sew all the other seams.

You may find that the curtains hang better from curtain wires, Quite a lot of FC owners have ditched the poles supplied and just attach wires between the upright poles on the cabin frame. that way - no tapes and just a wide hem at the top.

You may find that making  voile curtains for the doors on the awning and cabin, keep pesky mossies out and let some breeze through. I got curtain weights for the bottoms of my voiles.

Check the tyres and gas hose for age
I bought a 1999 cruiser and the tyres looked new, when I checked the dot on the tyre wall they were the original tyres, both the tyres and the gas hose were the original (13 years old ) and have now been replaced

Welcome to the Pullman brother/sisterhood!

You'll not regret it!

Worth checking the gas regulator valve ... regs have changed since then, and there are new ones that comply with eu regs ... also, the old type do 'clog' up after a few years and delivery of gas to cooker/fridge may not be as good as it should be.

Not expensive to replace ... but make sure you know what you are doing, or get a gas engineer (or caravan maintenance specialist) to do it for you. I get mine serviced annually by a registered caravan service agent.

If you don't plan to use it in UK (we only use ours on the continent), it might be worth your wjile looking at storage in (say) France. We do ... saves towing and ferries to France, and leaves extra space at home. Means we can get there quicker! Undercover and secure storage can cost well under 200 euros a year.

Congratulations and welcome to the world of FC's!!

I would say get the basic safety checks done as above  (gas hoses and tyres are two main ones, along with checking wheels for play (bearings)) and  then use it a couple of times and start building up a picture of what you may want to change or add to! Be careful though its addictive and expensive!!!

We are taking ours for first time to France this year (also courtesy of Mr Tesco), so do check out the camping abroad section as lots of tips thereMost of all enjoy it - can't wait to get back out there very shortly!
