To cut a very long story short I have found myself with a lovely, if somewhat tatty, Esterel folding 'van which has had it's electrical system partially removed. The towing lights are fine but obviously everything else is non-functional and needs putting back together or starting again. I have some wiring abilities, but certainly not enough to do it myself. There is also work needed on the gas pipework. Is there anywhere around Hampshire/Berkshire that can help with this or is there a wiring diagram anywhere (I could do it if I had one of those!)?
Thanks for the replies, I wasn't expecting any on an Esterel topic!
I don't know what needs doing to be honest, my ex said it was all wrong and was going to rewire it all but gave up! I'd need someone to look at it to see what he's just disconnected and what needs repairing and make it safe to use. If I could afford it I'd just sell up and get another but I can't so repairing this one is my best bet. I do know there's no consumer unit or Zig unit though.
First of all you want to use it so why not just get a stand alone extension with an RCD. Then hook up a simple gas line for the cooker. That is enough to get you out and you can consider the van and how you feel about it and how functional it is. No point blowing several hundred on electric and gas work to find out the suspension is shot the first time you tow.
OK so you might want to jump a cable to wire up the fridge but all pretty basic.
Probably some form of heresy but in my option a Zig unit is just an expensive substitute for a battery charger and a voltmeter.
Sorry for being utterly blonde but what would a stand alone extension involve? At least I know what an rcd is! It does tow fine as I finally managed to convince my ex to let me take it the other day and literally everything is good bar the electrics! Somewhat spongy floor by the door which I'll investigate and he's also ripped out the fitted shower which is fine as the tray was cracked and there's nowt wrong with showers on site!
Aha, I see, thanks! A lot of the sites I go to don't have ehu so I guess It'll be just like camping but withought the draughts for the time being! At least one of the stand alone set ups will mean I can go to ehu sites until I can find someone qualified to look at the electrics.
Right if your getting some help direct that's great.
I do need to know though if most of the sites you use are without EHU what are the electrics for?
I guess it will be one gas line for the cooker and one for the fridge now.
The leisure battery would be useful to have connected again as I can charge that when needed plus I do use some sites with ehu. Plus don't you need some kind of power for the water pump? It'd be nice to have light too lol!
