I'm new to the forum and to folding campers and we've just purchased a pennine pathfinder to use with our young family. We've booked to go away for two nights this week for a trial run and I'm looking at the weather and am a bit worried about taking two very young children away overnight. We have a small blown air heater, hot water bottles and duvets. Do you think we'll be warm enough overnight and will the heater be enough to heat the camper?
I'm sure you'll be fine, it really doesn't take much to warm up the cabin part, we use a small blower in ours and another radiator in the awning if my so is sleeping in it.
we've just come back today and ours (5 and 4) complained they were too hot !! we hat a fan heater, they were wearing pj's and sleepsuits and had sleeping bag...eventually they just used their bags as duvets !
We've just come back from a week in Wales and have to say the weather has been the worst we have encountered...it was cold, windy and wet...but in the camper we were toasty warm. We do have heated matress toppers which made a huge difference and we left the blow heater on throughout the nights most nights...our daughter is 5 and she was fine.
We too camped last week and it was freezing cold and windy outside, but lovely and warm with our blow heater on during the evening. We turned it off many times as it got too hot, then turned it off completely at bedtimes, but we did shared a Hot Water Bottle in our double sleeping bag and kept our socks on.
Thank you for the replies. We think we're going to brave it. very exctied now and just need to pack up the Pathfinder in the morning and off we go to Ashbourne
Hi there
We went on our maiden voyage in our new trailer tent this easter weekend, we have to young girls, 2.5 and 6 months, and they loved it, stayed warm and dry and it was so worth it. a small fan heater on low in the sleeping area kept the temp at 18 degrees and it got to minus 2 over night.
you will have a fantastic time
------------- Life is too short to not spend it camping!

Wouldn't be Callow Tops by any chance ?
Love that place cant wait to back, as we have been there a few time when we had a caravan.
Only yesterday did I put a deposit on a FC, and cant wait to get it as not been away since selling our caravan 2 and a half years ago .
Let us know how you get on as mine are aged 10 and 4 and have never slept under canvas before, (me Neither tbh)

We had a couple of big frosts overnight last week and were toasty inside. We have a 1.5kw oil rad whoch has a fan heater as well. USed the fan heater whilst awake and oil rad left on overnight just to keep the chill away from the cabin. Once in bed providing you have PJ's and socks on you will be absolutely fine.
Our firends in statics were much colder than us as they couldn't leave any heat source on overnight (gas heaters only). you will be surprised how cosy the bed pods are. Just get some mattress toppers or fleecy type blankets on top of the mattresses and you'll be fine
We went in our FC the last weekend of March to deepest darkest Exmoor. It was cold (down to freezing at night) but we took a heater and the FC stayed lovely and toasty. Just take plenty of layers, lots of blankets etc.
Well, the Woolf family are back from our 'maiden voyage' in our pathfinder and it was absolutely brilliant. We were at Callow Top chrisfreelander54, although we feel like we cheated a bit as we only live just down the road in matlock!! The site was perfect for our 4 year old and his little sister (20 months), they had so much freedom and found it all very exciting.
We feel like we were well and truly initiated into the world of FCs as we survived hail, thunder and lightning but we were very cosy in the camper (the same cannot be said for our good friends in their tent next door). I even managed to pack the Camper up myself while my husband emptied the waste (rather him than me).
We've now booked Cornwall in July and I'm trying to find somewhere for a weekend in May.
Thank you for all your replies.
