Hi minikings,

I am in a same situation as you(on the limit with towing weight and looking for a f.c)

Yes the continental is lighter, but it is a very basic model, with basic upholstery,no fridge,no wardrobe, and no electrics fitted as standard with manual footpump The stirling ,pulman, andcruiser are much better  vans if you can manage them.Unfortunatly too heavy for me .

the weight is dependant on the age, mine is an 91 cruiser and has a fully loaded weight of 750kg,and only 535kg ex works.the newer the unit the heavier they get.

Hi I tow a pullman 800 kg with a scenic 1.5DCI 85 BHP no problem. don't forget kids will grow and don't buy anything too small, as said make sure you get an awning, you will need it, I have had a camper for over 10 years and never bothered with skirts. they are a lot warmer than a tent but we have a small fan heater for the colder evenings use a good quilt on the beds, have never had the need for electric blanket etc. As for toilet make do with site facilities that's part of camping.
I think your Scenic will have the same engine as our car so we should be able to have a Pullman. That will make things a lot easier as there seems to be more of them around for sale. We normally just stick a toilet in the tent at night and use the site facilities in the day so although I would love a Pathfinder or Crusader it's not really a problem.

Hi Claire
The link will take you to towcar info site ... I've calculated the Gross max weight at 900kg .... the ex-works Pullman is 675kg .... you can carry an extra 225kg .... giving your total of 900.
When you get to 3 - Select caravan button ... scroll down and click on Trailer Tent.
When you proceed you will have to enter more details on your car , and you will be offered select bagagewagen ... select the second option (achter normale personen).
The next page will allow you to put in the Pullman figures:
Empty weight 700/User payload: 200/MTPLM: 900
Width is 2.10 (nearest) and height 1.45 (nearest)
The figures show that you shouldn't have a problem towing .... but you can play around with other parameters on this site ... if you wish to!:

http://www.towcar.info/index.php (link at end of this)

We don't usually sleep more than three in ours ... but you could. Though both folding beds are designated doubles ... the bigger one is fine ... the other very much depends on the size of the occupants!
Setting up the double bed potential in the table area would give you more options ... but is boring ... and if anyone is using the folding bed next to the table area ... and wanted to get up/out at night ... they'd have to clamber over the sleeping bodies!
As others have mentioned ... the awning, once you get used to it, is easily erected in twenty minutes to half an hour .... depends on how many hands you have to help. And ... always zip on the awning first, then throw it back over the main cabin roof .... then attach the poles and build the frame, then pul the awning back over the frame, and adjust the poles ... it's much easier/quicker than doing the frame first.
We always use the skirts ... useful storage areas.
Nowadays, the kids like more privacy ... so we take a small (two man) tent, quick erect type ....
The awning space is wonderful ... room for a big table and portable wardrobes etc.
Towing is really very easy with the Pullman ... much easier than a caravan (one of the reasons we chose an FC) and, significantly cheaper on fuel consumption.

Thanks for this info, it came out at 69% perfect match. Just got to sell the tent, trailer and gear (DH insists they go first) then there will be no stopping me.
We are going to have a trip to Burcroft Camping when the weather improves to have a look. Does anyone know of any other dealers in East Anglia? Have seen one called Three Shires on ebay which is at Hemel Hempstead anyone know of them?

FYI, I'm selling a Pennine Sterling 2004 which is 900kg. It has an awning and I also have a toilet tent and toilet which I am throwing in which we put in one corner of the awning. :-)

Whether you are interested in mine or not, I can say this model has been great with our 2 little ones.

Have you advertised yours yet, If so where?

Hi Minikings
We bought our Pullman from Tony Wilds camping at Woburn
Good range there and many different types all set up so you can compare side by side
They also responded well to a haggle ! In case you do go there and fall in love with one as we did
Link for Tony Wilds
