Can I ask Camplet owners what you prefer (or use) between the slatted bed and the insulated mat. Does it just come down to cost and comfort. I know it would be better to use one or the other due to the bottom of the mattress getting possibly damp. Greatful for anyone's opinions.
We use the slats ,and they make a lot of difference in comfort, not so much with condensation. Ideally, use both, but not the Camplets own mats, cheap ones from Go cut to size would be cheaper. Don't stick them down as you may get condensation in between the mat and the glassfibre which would soon start to stink. The slats can go inside or outside of the inner tent. Some recommend Ikea slats,we have the proper Camplet ones, and though they were expensive, they were cheaper thru' Camperlands than they were from the manufacturers
Thanks Miserly you've been a great help. I love reading your posts you're always so helpful. I've wanted a camplet for the last 3 years and I will be getting one eventually and just seeing what others who have one recommend. Thanks again.
we have a camplet had it 5 years we have got the slats from ikea thay have made it better no more condension just push them back to close up we also have taken the mattrass out of the lid side so we can put more in to travel and we use the space for all our clothes we still use the seat but no need to carry a mattress we dont use
Thanks jmg44, we're a family of 4 so want to make it as comfortable as poss, also because OH hates camping (I make him go!) because he's never comfy sleeping - gone from air beds to camp beds and still moans, so when we eventually get a camplet want to make him look forward to going. Thanks again.
hi heather, my oh hated sleepin on airbeds/campbeds & was reluctant to camp until he saw the camplet which he then bought & now loves goin camping bcos of the comfy beds, we hav slats and a fleece mattress cover & are warm & comfortable - hope u get one soon
we got our slats from Ikea cost about £25 i think loads cheaper than Camplet supplier..They are comfy but we still get a bit condensation, had to dry the beds with the hairdryer on many occasions!! just got some mats to try under them to see if any difference next outing.
Thanks very much for all your advice. Ikea is £100 cheaper than Camperlands so definately an alternative. We sometimes camp early/late in the season so I'm thinking cheap insulating mats as well as slats would be a good idea.
It's nice to find out what others buy/use so you don't go wasting money on stuff you're not going to need.
Thankfully the husband is looking forward to getting a camplet when we can. It wont be till end of season or next year though.
Do you need the slats?forgot to say,my 2 girls are 6 & 8 and to be honest they dont really need the slats because they are light and the beds are thick and comfy anyway.you could always just put some insulatinon under them and save your money for later.
Thanks royalcampers my two are 9 and 8. Was thinking (when we've finally got it) that because of the wheel arches that kids can sleep in that side and me and oh in the lid side and just put the slats from that side over - if that makes sense and if it's possible.
the slats are shaped on the wheel arch side and the lid side has straight sides so they wont fit the full area also, you need to be able to put the bed on the lid side up as a seat so i wouldnt recomend it.When we got the Ikea slats i just cut the slats to stop at the back of the seat barsyou dont mind for that price and there is still enough length on the slats for the kids to lie down on them.
Us being heavier sleep on the wheel arch side even if it is a bit narrower, theres still loads of room and Im not a small girl and OH not exactly the size of Brad Pitt!! Dont know why but i feel a bit 'safer 'with 2 wheels & a jocky wheel supporting my weight rather than the 2 x poles that hold up the lid side although we have done it.Just scared the poles will sink in the grass ,even with small plates of wood under themwould give everyone a good laugh though
I was't going to bother using the seat bit but you never know. You've got a point about the lid side with just the poles keeping you up. See something else I wouldn't have thought about, that side sinking - note to self save some wood from wood pile.
That's another thing the last time we went camping we were on a slight slope. With a camplet if you're on a slight slope facing down the way would the awning still reach the floor once the main unit is levelled?
weve had no problems with this but,you could always pitch the other way around as you can still level the beds and have the canopy reach the floor. To be honest we always try for hardstanding pitches[not concrete] as they are usually flatter,we have had some pitches with the old tent in the past where the kids have gone through the bedroom compartment,
Believe me you will use the seat, when its raining and you eat inside put the kids on the seat and just use 2 chairs the other side of the table,it saves loads of space. The annex is a must for long trips away and hides the cupboard for clothes, shoe baskets, toilet and a multitude of other rubbish! We got the sun canopy wit the sides last year and it was great but still wish we could have afforded the extension
Yeah I intend on getting the annexe aswell, as a bathroom/rubbish hiding room then once the kids want their own space as my two are boy and girl then it'll become a bedroom.
Just busy toting it all up at the mo because we intend buying new - husbands orders! Wont be till end of year or next year - I can wait though. I want the Adventure - not too hot on the colour scheme but it is growing on me. Been in the Premium and thought it was a bit dark inside - that's what I keep telling myself!!!!
