The ply on the underside of an old larger esterel I have has had some damp get at it. It is the type that has a toilet room on right of door (door on uk drivers side) then behind toilet has double seat under window on front bulkhead and single seat facing opposite with single table between the seats. then has two double seats at other end of van (beside wardrobe and cooker unit) with double table fixed to rear wall of van (not sure what model it is).
Just near the edges really and not all the way round.
I was wondering about repairing this. At the rear I had just planned to replace the bottom layer of ply with marine ply, epoxy tape the seam and then treat like I would delaminated floor (or do I just coat ply with resin first and stick it to the polystyrene middle then tape seam and treat outside?
round the sides I wasn't so sure as I am not sure how van is anchored to metal chassis (which looks in good condition) or how sidewalls are anchored to floor. If I cut out the rotten lower sections can I just replace same as at rear or will there be problems with this?
The van seems solidly attached to chassis and sidewalls seem solid so just wanted to get an idea how floor is constructed and how sidewalls are attached to floor (is there wood between the two layers of floor that sidewall is screwed into???
My last idea to fix would be to ensure it's all dried out and then tape any gaps etc. and treat whole floor like I would for delamination to strengthen floor and stick lower ply back to top. Once done use something like west epoxy to fill round edges and take off any ply that was brittle filling holes left or any layers of bottom ply that are soft, where any lower ply was too far gone (seems like a quicker and easier way to fix but would this introduce any problems?).
Really need some help with this as I ain't a clue what I am doing (well did used to sail so do have some knowledge of ply and epoxy etc.) I got this van as I can't work anymore due to problems with discs in my neck and back and it was the only way my other half, daughter, little boy and I have any chance of at least getting the odd week or weekend away as we have very little money with just my other half's earnings. I didn't have the money for an expensive van and tbh beginning to think this one isn't going to last me and repairs will be too hard and expensive and that's me knackered as likely won't have the money for me to get anything else.
