Following a long weekend away in our '91 Conway Cruiser I have drawn up a list of things to sort before our 2 weeks away in July.
I would appreciate your advice in solving any of these:
- The green cover billows at speeds 45-60mph, blocking my rear view mirror
- Missing cleats to fasten the elastic around the apron of the cover, the screws have sheared. Where can I get new ones?
- I need a new reverse bulb, are these easy to find?
- Inner pockets in the bed canopies: My wife is considering sewing in some small pockets for her glasses et,c has anyone tried this?
There were many more but the good people on this site have solved many for me already.
If you are missing cover cleats, the cover will flap around. Try to get the old screws out,new cleats are available from Penrose outdoors. Normal 21w single centre contact bulb, about £ 4 from Halfords ,99p anywhere else! I had ,on a previous tent, pockets made from an organiser ,chopped down to size and sewn on, perfect for books, glasses etc.
the top cover on our pathfinder used to lift up at the back when on the motorway. I towed it with a Vito (van) and latterly an XC90 - so both were relatively tall tow cars. I thought that was why I got the problem.
Any how the cure was a strap around the trailer, part nylon webbing, part bungee, with material pads at the corners to stop chaffing. Also the securing elastic had perished slightly - maybe I should have replaced that too, but I never got round to it.
And yes I used to return from trips with a little list of mods I'd thought of.
Replace the bungy elastic if its quite old as easy to do and holds cover more securely. Bought ours from ebay I think. 5 or 6mm cord is fine and just attached to cut off end at locker end with three cable ties and then either shrink wrap or tape the join all in same colour
The tent inners are just cotton fabric so an easy sew on job and as above ours already has two for each bed pod
