you would need them with a pullman or the other 6 berth models as they are wider than the car ,but not with the smaller fiesta/countryman variants if they are pre-width increase models .
and thats the crux of it if the trailer is wider than the tow-car you must fit extra mirrors

WHOA hold on theres a hell of a difference between don't need and LEGAL REQUIREMENTS ,even though you have a large high vehicle if your trailer is wider than your tow car you are legally required to fit towing mirrors .end of story .most six berth f/c's are wider than the towing car .
try arguing with the copper thats giving you the fixed penalty notice that you don't need them
If you can see the rear corners of your trailer and anything that is behind these corners with your car mirrors, then you don't need extension mirrors.
If you cannot see the rear corners of the trailer, then, by law, you require extension mirrors.
Black Fox some of the older Cruisers are not as wide as newer models but a 98 would still be 202 cm wide which is as you say wider than most cars, and certainly wider than a Verso. personally i wouldn't tow one without towing mirrors, especially for the extra field of vision they do give you

not quiet right lobey ,that used to be the case ,the new law states if the trailer is wider than the car mirrors are required ,as i said try telling a copper that you think its o.k
We use towing mirrors with our sterling the ones that fasten on with the rubber straps, they vibrate when driving which is really annoying, does anyone else use this type and have this problem ?.

I did once tow the Pathfinder without extension mirrors (when I collected it) - never again!
Even with the Cardinal where I had good visibility over the top I still used extensions so I could see right down the sides of the camper.
I do use the strap-on type mirrors on my Xsara, they work well on that although they didn't work on the previous Berlingo! I think they're very dependent on how solid the car mirrors are. The Berlingo's large mirrors suited the rubber-suction type mirrors.
