We are currently testing the water with regards to selling our 2006 Folding Camper. We have only got it advertised in one place at the moment, we aren't in a rush to sell at the moment, but we thought we would see what interest we have in it.
Firstly, how would you go about arranging the payment from the buyer? Would you insist on a banker cheque or a personal cheque. Is it wise to accept cash?
Definitely not a cheque - unless the buyer is willing for it to be cleared before taking the camper. Electronic transfer of funds is probably best but cash is OK if you're comfortable with it. (check serial numbers, etc.)
But I'm no professional. Hopefully, someone 'in the business' may be able to give better advice. We're just selling a camplet and will ask for cash unless the buyer offers a secure method of payment as an alternative.
I just logged on here to edit my ad, as we have just sold our 2010 Countryman.
I also had it advertised on a number of other classified sites, including a classified ad on Ebay and also on the caravan club and camping and caravanning club websites, and on the Conway Owners Club site. It actually sold via Preloved.
The new owners came prepared with cash. I think that is the best option, other than a bank transfer, but the buyers did not want to have to arrange that and then make another journey to collect the camper once the payment had gone through. I don't know if I would want a cheque as payment.
When we sold ours, payment was made by bank transfer.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I certainly wouldn't accept a cheque, how do you know they have the funds for it to clear? Cash is the way to go or what we did before when we bought a car we went to the bank and transferred the money into their account.
We bought our present FC cash although I was certainly uneasy about arranging for that amount of cash at the bank and equally uneasy about travelling down to see it, carrying that amount.
Later that year we sold our caravan and that was done by Bank Transfer.
Last year we bought a Porch Awning for our FC and that was paid by Bank Transfer.
We paid for it with a bank cheque, that we had to go into the Bank and get them to print it, therefore, the money had to be in our account for them to do it. Then we left it with Discover and took the camper.
I would wait until the personal cheque had cleared in my account before they were able to take the FC.
I was worried about cash due to counterfit maybe!
We are new to this and have never sold anything for such a big amount!
