hi all just wondering if i can pick your brains . i own a pennine aztec f/camper and tow it with a discovery . im off camping in a few week and want to take our cycles with us but due to lack of space they will not fit on the 4x4 . my question is could i fit a car cycle carrier to the rear of the trailer ( some how ) as i dont think there is enough clearance between the tow bar and trailer for a tow bar bike carrier or rear mounted carrier . thanks kath .ps my husband does not want to use a roof carrier on the 4x4 thanks

We are off tomorow and are taking the bikes (2). We use a rear mounted cycle rack on the back of the car with no probe.

hi thanks for that what type of trailer have you got and do you tow it with a 4x4 . my spare wheel is on the back door of the 4x4 making it hard to fit a bike rack . i know you can buy spare wheel bike racks . but attaching it to the wheel narrows the distance between the 4x4 and trailer . thanks kath

You could bolt the bracket of a witter type carrier (the type that bolt behind the towball) directly to the back of the camper perhaps? Though I have seen plenty of 4x4s carrying bikes on the back of the car with loads of clearance.

We have towed our pennine countryman with a citreon picassa 1.6 with 2 bikes on the back from Central Scotland down to Melton Mowbry today in that awful weather we had today. Although the bikes sat over the A frame there was still enough clearance.

The OP has a 4x4 with a huge spare wheel on back door so not the same as most people replying here

In answer to OP's question she asked, you could probably fit one bike on very back of camper by using the pull out bed support stand if yours has one. Kelper who has posted above has done this on their Pullman and puts one on there. i think more than one on the back would have size and noseweight balance issues however

Don't forget you will probably need light and number plate board if covering the rear of the camper aswell

Roof of the 4x4 would be cheapest and probably easiest option

Second that Keith.
Then you could have two or three bikes on the MaxxRaxx and one on the rear of the camper ... various combinations available ... the MaxxRaxx also has a height extension to get you well clear of what you are towing (if needed, we don't need it ... but only have two on the MR whilst towing)
