I,ve just bought a 1999 Pennie Sterling very cheap for my daughter and it needs a new water pump. As its raining I don't want to put it up to find the fault, so can anyone out there tell me which of the many pumps on the market fits this model. Thanks for keeping me dry
Our Sterling was manufactured 2000 and the pump is a 12v 'Whale submersible pump'. The device plugs into an outlet socket on the offside of the unit and draws water from a container.
It is controlled from a footswitch, on the floor internally near the sink, covered bya rubber dome. I don't have immediate access to my unit to read the serial plate but a quick look at the 'Whale' webpages shows they still produce a unit called the 'Watermaster' which looks very similar. I suggest you give Whale a ring and make sure that the 3 - pin connection is still the same type before taking the plunge.
Thanks Ian, I can't get my head round to look inside the flap (I left it too close to the wall) but will go on the Whale website and hopefully tomorrow will be drier and I can open it up.
If you take the pump unit and connect it to a battery you should see it pump, or at least hear it. You may find it is actually the foot switch that is faulty, or a connection may have come off got damaged. on my old sterling the switch didn't work unless you pressed really hard. This was just down to age and use the foot switch had had
With a bit of basic wiring skills and a test meter you could find you do not need to buy a pump.
We have a 2000 sterling which we bought in march this year,on our first outing the pump would not work, but on checking under the sink it turned out it was a loose wire, not fully connecting so check that as well.

Thanks everyone. The rain has stopped and I've managed to open it up! The fault with the water pump turned out to be no more than a spade connector come off the back of the socket in the cupboard. All else seems fine with it except a mouse chewed inner tent in one bedroom. If anyone out there knows where to buy a replacement I would be grateful, otherwise its out with the needle & cotton. My daughter saw it up for the first time today and can't wait for it to be ready for the off!
You could give Pennine a ring and see if they have anything made up which would fit. If not Tent Valeting Services at Farnworth near Bolton will be able to make one up for you.
