Hi Everyone,
We have bought an old trailer tent. The previous owner said that he has had to change tyres at least once or twice a trip. On airing it out yesterday, Pete found that the axle is not right on one side. It's not bent, just some fixings on one side are worn out. The trouble is that it's a 1984 Conway Gazelle so the parts to repair it don't seem to be available. He is thinking of replacing the whole axle. Has anyone else had anything like this?
Tnx
Jules
Sorry, I can't help with your problem but am hoping you may be able to help with mine! Did your Gazelle come with a transit cover? If so, could you let me know the measurements - I am particularly interested in the depth of the sides. Mine did not have one but I can get one made locally if I can get the exact measurements.
Hope someone comes along soon who can help you - the chassis is similar to the Combi Camp so maybe worth asking on their forums?
We used ours for the first time on the Jubilee week. In spite of horrendous winds on the Isle of Wight, it stood up to everything the weather threw at it and we are well pleased with it.
Indespension did some small unbraked trailer axles for towed plant, compressors and the like.
They were around 500kg capacity which should be loads for a Conway plus kit, and they took the small 4-stud wheels, size escapes me right now but possibly worth seeing if that sort of thing is still available.
I know of at least two new axles of this type plus new wheels and tyres if it would help.
Thanks for your replies. We're going to my son's tomorrow (the trailer is parked at his house) to do measurements etc. so will be able to give Ronni54 the answer to his question and may contact Peter re new axle. Thanks also for the links. Will investigate.
Not 100% sure, but the gazelle is a rebadged combi camp, and there is a combi named gazelle which may be the same,so it's an avenue to go down perhaps. I saw one recently and it did look like the conway and wasn't very old so spares may be available?

Are the axles Al-Ko Type 400 by any chance??

No, they are both Indespension. We bought them, along with hubs and 5 wheels and tyres for a trailer to go into the back of one of our vans, but we ended up going the other way entirely and built this instead:
It is a box trailer and caravan in one. Our show engine goes in the back, we go in the front. It has most of the interior out of a Swift Challenger 360 in it, fridge, cooker hob & oven, Cascade water heater, shower and cassette toilet.
