we have an old pennine pullman, & we are having difficulty in putting the awning up, could someone please tell us old gits how to put up the awning please, it has 3 front legs, 5 stretchers with hooks & nylon pole clips on the end, where the pole clips attach to a pole that runs the whole length of the awning at the camper side, this follows the contour of the trailer, when he hook is put into the hole, the pole when attach to the nylon Y connector does not fit, how should this attach please, we are going mad with this LOL

many thanks
Lyn

Firstly zip on the actual awning that seems to help and from previous threads i've read people tend to then throw this over the main body of the FC. Then assemble the poles on the ground. It may be that the Y clips just need turning. Try using another piece of pole to turn them tho they are in very tight we had this problem with a few of them. But you sound like you've got it spot on.

Hi Ishipley, thank you for your help, the Y clips do fit, but they pull out when you try to put it up LOL
the push onto a pole running the length & contour of the the camper, but seem to be short of the the Y clips, that are on the end of the stretcher poles, & and keep falling off , when we try to connect the stretcher to the front poles, many thanks for you help please LOL

I have instructions for the old Pennines

It says

1) Locate all roof tensioners (the L shaped hooks) into holes in main cabin frame

2)Assemble front frame and connect roof tensioners (what you call stretchers)

3) Pull canvas over roof tensioners and thread through back frame - picture shows a man threading the pole that runs the whole length of the camper through a channel at the rear of the awning

4) Cover framework with canvas and hoof back frame (the pole that runs the whole length of the camper) into the c clips.

Presumably you then zip it on.

Hope this makes sense. You can't zip the awning on first because you have to have this full length pole threaded through.

I find it easier with my cruiser to fit the frame first lower the front legs, pull the canvas over the frame, stand the frame legs up to height then zip the awning in place.
I have to use a two step ladder to reach the apex but it seems to be easier for me this way.

start with the basics ,get the five poles that attach to the camper ready ,one at a time put L section in its hole ,stretch out pole till it touches the ground ,repeat for other 4 poles .
assemble front section ,then as one of you holds up front section ,attach 5 poles to front section ,some will drop out so patience is needed ,once complete raise legs fully if not done so already ,then pull awning over frame from camper roof ,peg down .
its best if you don't have window sections in awning till its up (keeps weight down)

patience is the key to this ,and as with caravan awnings they are not known as the DIVORCE TOOL for nothing

big p.s even though i am six foot plus ,we always carry a set of 3 step kitchen steps with us ,it helps when things are just out of reach

thank you all for your responses, we understand the methods described, the problem we are encountering is getting the 'y' clip attached to the long pole at the camper side as well as the hook into the main frame holes in unison.

Many thanks.
