 Hi all,

             i am thinking of buying a 10 minute tent to put up instead of the massive awning along side my cruiser .Can anyone recomend one.I wondered how the camp sites would react to this if i paid the awning

I am not certain what a '10 minute tent' is! Do you want extra sleeping accommodation - in which case it would probably be regarded as a pup tent? Or extra living space - such as a gazebo, but faster to put up than an awning? Sites vary in their policies. Some allow pup tents, awnings and gazebos at no extra charge, so long as they fit within the confines of your pitch and allow for a safe 'fire gap'. Others have various fees depending which category they think you fall into.

If what you want is a pup tent - extra sleeping accommodation - the 'quick erect' type which are very common now, are indeed very quick to erect, but most of them are single skin which can leave you with some condensation issues - especially at either end of the season. I have used a gazebo as extra living accommodation, and found it excellent for space and headroom, but in general they are not designed for this and therefore may not stand up to bad weather. The more robust ones do not necessarily take less time to put up than an awning.

One of the other options is a lightweight porch awning, which is smaller, kind of dome tent meets awning, which is much quicker to put up. These vary enormously in price and it is wise to shop around the auction sites and second hand sites as there are bargains to be had in comparison with new prices  if you are patient and shop around.

This is the Revolution Porch Awning that zips to our FC.

And it gives us loads of extra space.

When travelling, the poles come out and the awning is thrown up onto the roof, still zipped on, and it folds up with the FC.

Thanks fo reply stephen,Yes,i have considered a Queshua,but i am not sure if they would stand up to bad weather.The ones i have seen were Quite small.

Do have a look at the Base Seconds - type Quechua Base Seconds in the search box at the Decathlon website and you'll see the range - we have what is now the £149 model though we got it a while back when they were selling off the old stock cheap. Don't worry whether they will stand up to bad wheather they do - really good in the rain (and that's where the little porch areas come in habdy as you can step out of the FC and shelter there while you undo the zip). And in high winds they just bend around and then spring back into shape rather than as in traditional units the poles bending or breaking. Do a search on here for other topics about Quechuas (you might have to look on the tent bit of the forum) and you'll find that other people have had the same experience - there's quite a fan club.
