hi can someone give me some advice on a decent digital tv ariel in a no signal area.do the inside ones work as i am new to camping and what sort of price would i be looking at.i dont want to buy a satalite dish or do i have to. if so tv stays at home thanks.
hi Harrison1,
tv ariel for 'no signal' area............... there is not one ....no signal means no reception ,
as regard ariel. indoor ariel wont be much good, you would need a digi ariel on a mast.
a good caravan shop will have lots of suitable ariels ,the best ones to go for are the type that look like a fish with protruding fins ,as these can be adjusted either flat for main transmitters or sideways for booster transmitters depending on where you are in the country ..
please remember that these days you really need a digital t.v or if not a free view box as well ,and don't forget that every place you visit the t.v will need to be set up/re-tuned for that area every time
And we Bought A signal finder to Help set up, it saves a lot of messing about.
you just connect the signal finder up to the coax ( connector is provided ) and turn Ariel to light as many LEDs as poss, takes 2 mins to set ariel up.

We got the signal finder from amazon, approx a tenner, just type in signal finder, the aerial was off prelove but you can get one from here . Or any caravan accessory shop should sell them, the aerial is about £30 ish.

Harrison 1, i am amazed that people will pay all these fancy prices for a (digital)?? TV ariel. look around were you live how many people have these so called fancy digital ariels.
you can buy an ariel from shops like Wilkinsons for about £8, if fixed to a pole will work just as good.
Even if you were in a low signal area you could fit a signal amplifier and the whole lot would still cost you less than £25.

As the OP has posted his question in the TT/FC section, I would presume that that is the kind of unit that he is using.
Now I don't know about anyone else, but I would be hard pushed to find room in my FC to pack my household Digital TV Aerial.
And anyway, even if I could find a standard TV Aerial that was small enough to fit into an TT/FC locker, the amount of cotton wool and bubble wrap that I would need to keep it safe from getting damaged, would mean that the Missus would have to leave her Kitchen Sink etc at home.
I have been camping rather a long time and I have yet to see anyone using a standard household TV Aerial on a campsite. I guess that others have the same packing problems that I have.
Although we now use the same Aerial that Josey60 has, we only do so because it came as a freeby when we bought the FC.
Up until then we used THIS aerial with our previos units and will continue to have it as a spare.
Because it is has diagonal pick-up, we don't need to bother as to whether the transmitter works on a horizontal or a vertical transmission.
However the one that came with the FC is smaller and easier to store in the lockers as we don't always bother with the TV unless we are staying on a site for longer than 3 days. Otherwise we just use the built in radio.
