Hello everyone

I am in the process of purchasing an old folding camper and being an experienced tent camper and a complete novice of a folding camper, I am looking for information.

Insurance, is it best to be included on your car insurance or separate and I do not have a secure garden to store it, it will be in my allocated private car parking space and whilst I will have a hitch lock I do not have a wheel clamp, can anyone recommend an appropriate wheel clamp?

I have tried to register at conwayowners.org.uk but I have had no contact with them once I have filled in the relevant fields and submitted. Anyone else have this problem or does it just take a while to get the ok?

Thanks in advance.

Brian

Hi Brian,

Can't help with most of your questions but it took the owners club a few days to respond to me also, don't worry.

I bought an SAS wheel clamp for mine that seems pretty decent (if not a wee bit expensive), most insurance companies insist on having clamp and hitchlock I think (at least mine did).

When attached to the car your car insurance should cover it (check with your insurance company), when not attached you should have it insured.

Hope some of this is of help, I'm a total novice having just bought a Conway Tardis.

Andy.

Gives these a ring regarding your insurance and tell them you are UKCampsite member and you should get a discount.

I may be wrong, but I don`t think your car insurance will cover what you tow, hence you have different insurance.

If you are having to leave it on an allocated private car park then I would be inclined to secure the "A" frame to the ground with one of these with a strong chain.

A hitch and wheel lock should also be used such as this and this.

Someoen with a FC will provide some help with what to look for etc.

Hi ,
A good value company for insurance is 'insurance for trailer tents as mentioned above. They will insure the unit and add any other gear carried in it etc. You will need to insure it separately so that it is always covered even when parked.
Main thing to remember with security is where it is parked. Is your allocated space secure or is it just in a street ? Hitchcock is a must, but with the wheel clamp it depends on how secure you want it. We have a cheap one that goes on more to deter than stop.
Hope you enjoy the camper , you will find a lot of info on here if you have questions

Have you checked the camper walls and floor for damp? At the bottom inside the seat boxes cupboards and under the camper at the edges? Also check the door and suurounds. Have you seen it up to check if it opens and closes properly and the canvas is not mouldy? Does everything work? Gas, electrics and water systems.

Fred
