We've got a Cadac safari chef..it's awesome and a mini oven which weighs much less than a microwave. TBH we don't really use the mini oven, the cadac is enough!
We also have a big George Foreman 'spaceship' griddle, which, as old as it is, cooks a whole breakfast for 5 in one go!
We don't..but we do have a toaster...which means that many of our camp mals are of the "on toast" variety. We got a very cheap Te sc os one, that is fairly low watt. Think it cost about £6.
We are fairly new to FC camping...so I have not ruled out getting a microwave, but have so far no needed one, although getting a meal for 4 ready, and all 4 eating it at the same time is a skill I am developing (well, getting better at anyway!)
If you can afford it buy a combination oven, so that you have microwave and an oven. You need to have cookware that can rotate on the turntable or you don't have even cooking.
"Cooking" just the wife and I so not so bad, as we spend most of our hol out and about visiting places we tend to have our main meal in cafe's with good menu's while we are out so its just breakfast or teatime sandwich back on site, when we do cook on site its normally rice dishes or salads, as there is just the two of us our 2 ring gas stove and a toaster is fine, I have seen people with microwaves and and cookers going full pelt trying to feed 5 people which is great if everybody pitches in and helps after all its mums holiday as well.
Grunty, you can get a small m/w from a British Heart Foundation charity shop for about £40. I've seen several today at that price but latched onto a 2 x 400 watt (800W) heater for just for a tenner, which is far better than the one we run at present.
