It makes absolutely no difference.

In terms of safety, both are heavier than air, so both will suffocate you in the same way as CO if allowed to accumulate and both will explode given half a chance. Propane is simply a higher pressure. As you have mentioned, it has a much lower boiling point so the cylinder won't ice up.

One thing to note though is that Butane has a substantially higher calorific value than Propane, so you get more heat out of it. As you are going somewhere warmer, I would think that you would be better of sticking with Butane. And make sure you have enough as you can only get Camping Gaz in France!

As someone has said, you can only get Camping Gaz in France which although butane, has a different fitting from Calor.  One of these will screw into a Gaz bottle and the other end will take your butane pigtail.
