also do these have any benifits over say a normal tent

i am totally new to the tt/fc thing and am inbetween a rock and a hard place of weather to jump from our tents to one of these

Hi dbspider,
apparently Pennine do a TT and a FC [trailer tent & Folding Camper].
well I may be wrong ...where I was looking they seem to be confused over what they are called ..TT or FC...:-)

the folding camper has a kitchen built into the trailer, the trailer tent usualy has a seperate kitchen to go in the awning.
but iether are a step up from a tent.... better beds that are 'off the floor', (I)in most cases(I) [ tt] include a basic kitchen.
some are ready wired for 'mains electric on site'
generaly the TT are slightly smaller trailer [around]4 or 5 ft wide and 6+ ft long] and lighter[around 600 kg]fully loaded,
the folding camper are around 6ft wide and 9ft long body on the trailer so are larger and around 1000kg fully loaded but have more 'caravany interior'
price varies greatly depending what age, condition and 'extras' are included with it.
check out ebay for comparable units to see the prices they go for.

iether way canvas condition and body condition are first priorities for buying, should be 'no sign' of mould or damp, and any repairs need to have been done professionally.
well thats my thoughts.....others will soon follow no doubt
bear in mind it is 'away season' at the moment
regards
don

Our first Folding camper was an Aztec, they are Ok for a first time unit,it is the smallest and lightest one (approx 650kg)that Pennine did and as such you do not need towing mirrors, it was made upto 1999/2000 when it was replaced by the Apollo,as don has said make sure the canvas is ok and the trailer has no damp, also make sure tyres are ok, ie no cracks etc,the way to check the year is look for the chassis or serial number which is on the A frame next to the jockey wheel the last two digits indicate the year ie 000096 would be a 1996 model, hope this has been of help.

As Josey60 says OK for a first FC,very towable,my first FC was an Aztec now towing a Pennine Sterling which has infinately more room.

The Aztec is a great starter for a Single/Couple very easy to put up we have even used for an overnight stop putting the main unit up with two people in less than 10 minutes ,it was more like towing a slightly larger trailer tent ,opens side to side rather than end to end, kitchen and storage adiquate .wouldnt recommend for a family unless one small child.

Whilst THIS site does not actually cover the Aztec, it will give you a good idea of what an FC is and the different models available.
