More advice needed from the people who know, I have just got my hands on a trailer tent and am looking to bye security, the question is, hitch lock or wheel lock, hitch lock would be fine but does not help when taking a break at service areas where as a wheel lock could be put on while we are away from car/trailer, somebody did suggest I buy one of the brass hitch lock key thingy that slides in the key shaped hole on the side of the hitch but I have heard a couple of horror stories about these having to be drilled out due to mall function. Any advice please as at the moment wifeys car is parked in front of trailer tent so it cannot be moved and if she doesn't go shopping soon I will wast away.

We use both. We don't leave it unattended at service areas but take refreshments with us and take it in turns to use the facilities.

Thanks Ian, I had considered having both, never worried before as we had an old trailer with roof box attached but it was very old, now bought a trailer tent and would rather not find it missing off the back of me motor, own refreshment is good idea as fed up with paying silly prices for Costa Coffee that tastes like mud. like the look of your Solena, very nice.

We tow a Pennine Sterling and use a Bulldog hitch lock which can be left on whilst towing,it's a real heavy duty unit a bit pricey but isn't any form of insurance,on site we also use a Bulldog wheel clamp for that added touch of security.

Hi Johno. We bought the Solena last August and it's only had 3 trips out so far. It was a close choice between that and the Venus (which was also on display at the same dealers) but the locking hard top, which becomes the 'living area' floor, finally swung it for us.

We find it ideal as there are usually only 2 of us but we also have the bedroom annexe for if we go with friends. The middle picture in my gallery was taken on it's first trip out, so we put everything up to check it all out!

We are lucky enough to have a garage to keep it in but it always has the hitchlock and wheelclamp on when stored, as well as on site. I can't really see anyone pinching it from a site as it would take a fair bit of time to dismantle it to the stage where it could be towed away but it doesn't take long to put them on and I think it is a condition of the insurance that at least one security device is on whenever it's not being towed.

We use both. Our unit is new this year and insured and they say we have to have both. When at service stations we just use the hitchlock but it is never left for long. We have a bulldog hitchlock and centurion wheelclamp (we had to go for that one as it was the only one which fitted our unit)

Thanks everybody, advice taken and have ordered both. Just need to track down a decent storage box for the front at a realistic price, Venus has a painted wooden one at the mo which is well made but have noticed a leak which I cannot cure, need to buy plastic type I think.

Jcoomes, I lost our little brass lock thing,went to buy another, the sales man had them but said don,t bother as you,ll only loose it again or it will jam in the hole and have to be drilled out, best bet was to buy a lock with a long loop drill the hole to size and it works a treat. Jock

Just ordered a great item from Towsure, its a lock which fits over one of the corner legs of the trailer tent and locks so that the leg raising and lowering nut is covered, if put this lock on a leg in the down position it cannot be wound up therefore unable to tow. Just need to remember to put it up before towing if having a break.
