Decided to have a 3 day break away and to say least its not been that great with car problems and now the zip on our venue cabin has decided to separate on one side when the canvas material joins the plastic material, any idea how to repair? for not too much money so we can use it again?
sorry I have never repaired a sip I am sure itcan be done, might be worth trying a search. Don't give up make sure your tent is away dry then concentrate onyour car you can come back to the tent .
Has it ripped for a long distance down the zip. I was thinking you could stitch a strip of fabric over the top just like a patch, you can stitch canvas with a domestic sewing machine as long as you are not through too many layers otherwise it gets very difficult. I did manage to replace skirts on my trailer tent last year sewing through canvas, skirt and webbing (was a task and a half and would never do again though) but it can be done so a tear near a zip shouldn't be too hard.
Sorry to be dense, but is it a venus, and is it the door zip? If so,then at least with the awning up,the things still usable. I seem to say this a lot,if you give your location on your profile, then it would be easier to point you towards a local repairer, or a member with a big sewing machine! Canvas repairs really are not that expensive,I had a ripped mudwall replaced for 40 quid. A new zip though would cost a fair bit more.
Thanks for the replies, at time of writing second post I was a bit anoyed that yet another thing had gone wrong that day.
The zip does most of the way down but their is about 2 inches that have come away from the canvas,MIL has had a quick look and things she can fix it, so in the light of the day its not too bad just anoying to have two things break on the same day (car keys broke), and car over heated on way to what was meant be a relaxing weekend.
BTW we are situated in Kent, and if I have time tommorow I will post up a picture.
I use sk camping in Godstone for my canvas repairs, so not a mIllIon mIles from you. they have a woman they send it off to and the prices are pretty reasonable. Not super fast as they wait until they have a few to send but out of season this isn't s real issue to me. Worth giving them a call
We had this happen last week in Cornwall. Had to make an emergency trip to a haberdashers in Truro for a needle & thread. Bit fiddly to sew the teeth back on, but we now have a functioning zip again!
